Who wants to go to DW '02???

The event will be held October 1-5 at Cooperland (which is near Stillwater, Oklahoma). I know that is a long drive. My first reaction was...NO WAY. However, I am giving it serious consideration.
I know some Michigan riders have attended prior events. It sounds like an opportunity to ride many different types of events..hare scrambles, mx, woods, etc... It also would be an excellent chance to meet (versus talk) to other DRN members.

October allows us a lot of time to plan a "caravan". Let me know your thoughts.

Hey, I am spending a week in Oklahoma next month (FAA training class). I will scope out the riding while I am there! Do they have any woods in Oklahoma?

I am a maybe with the motor home. I wouldn't want to go alone and my family would be out so maybe. I'd like a rider with me. I really want to attend a dirtweek but those KTM girlz may kick my a$$ and I may not feel welcome if ya know what I mean.

Let me know the dates that you will be in OKC. I'll see if I can hook you up with some WOODS riding. Believe me, you will like Dirtweek regardless of the distance away from home. Mark it on your calenders and be there. :aj:

Count me in for the caravan. The last two DW were great, if anybody is sitting on the fence whether to go or not, don't miss this you wont regret it.

Fred if you want to split costs for fuel and such for the SHAG I'll ride shotgun with ya.

i have met several riders from michigan at stillwater or the dunes here. it has always been in the winter, when they said it was too cold to ride up there. one group said they come every year. it must be worth the drive.

I'll keep that in mind and we'll see if I'm going as the time approaches.

Fred, if the gas mileage on the Shag isn't too bad... I would even pay all the gas cost. I would have to pay gas for my truck anyways.

Jeff, you wouldn't want to do that! It's not a money issue for me it's a time away from family issue. Combined with all the trailfests, Rites of spring and Jackpine work she gets a little irritated if I leave. I also usually go to the Indy 500 and Redbud every year and she's not interested in racing so she stays home and I earn negative "wife mojo" on those trips. I mentioned to her about going with me...but doubt she'd take time off work. If she takes time off it's for her defintion of "quality vacation time" So for now I'm a maybe until I get a better feel for it. I have a little plan for her on Mother's Day that might help me. He...He...

Are we married to the same woman? :p Just kidding...with my wife it's not too bad. I just have to plan accordingly. I'll tell ya Fred, what you need to do is make sure that you save up enough good MOJO now to get that week in October. I too have been to both of the previous events. As Jeff (Mr. Scary McGuyver) has already stated, if you go, you won't be disappointed. The event has something for everyone, and the social aspect is just as good as the riding. You guys don't want to miss this one. Do whatever you have to do...work overtime...beg your wives...purchase diamonds...get a temporary divorce...whatever it takes! I've already negotiated a preliminary pass to go. I'll keep selling the idea and get it firmed up in the next couple of months. So, when the time rolls around, I'll be ready to go. Looks like about 700 miles for us so we have to drive too! Hope to see you guys there.

Fred, don't worry about those KTM guys...we get all of the KDX guys together at the event. ;)

Tim,

I think Fred is more afraid of the KTM girls (not the guys). :|
I promised to protect him at DW '02 (if we make it).

Mike,

I thought he was refering to all of you Mich guys who ride KTMs...maybe you guys ride like girls I don't know. So he's refering to Aimee, and Fe and those real girls who actually ride KTMs?

Hope to see you guys there.

BTW, my parents are selling their house in Michigan, so I won't have a place to stage from if I make the long haul up there for a trail riding weekend. I'd love to get back to the places that you guys ride. I love Gladwin, West Branch, Rose City, Wolverine, Kerryville, Leota, Ross Comon, St. Helens...all good places.

Tim,
Fred does not need help from any trash talking Kawie riders. The KTM riders in MI let the riding do the talking!!!

Earlier this year Fred made a post about how dangerous KTMs were for women to ride (many of them had been injured while riding). He got ROASTED by Firecracker, Aimee, Fe, Anne Brooks and many others. I really felt sorry for him. If he attends DW '02, he may need protection.

Maybe DW '03 will be in Michigan!! NOT!! If you want to travel back to MI and need a place to stay, let me know.

Same here Tim, if you ever need a place to crash just get a hold of me also.
Fred, do what I do. For the next few weeks just kinda moap around with a sad look on your face. When she asks whats wrong say "oh never mind." After a few weeks of that start dropping hints that you "really want to go..." Works every time for me.

The caravan is beginning to grow. I talk to michman (and the other Alma guys) on a weekly basis about this trip. I just talked to Jeff Allen and he is planning to make the trip.
I plan to send Okie some money by the end of the week.

Looks like I am much closer to being "IN" now. My concern is pushing the RV for that far a trip only because it's a 1977 and I never know what can go wrong when it's that old. If I can get Jeff Allen to ride as resident in house "mechanic" I'll feel better driving it to OK. I think it's a 18 hour trip. I cleared waivers with the wife yesterday as I slid it in with our family vacation planning. So I'm good to go pending any bad things happening between now and then. I figure you, Jeff and I can go in the Shag. I can fit 3 bikes in my trailer don't you think? We can pile a bunch of gear in it too. I can take the entire week off.
