As far as I know it is going to be a closed course enduro layout. If you went to the Ottawa, IL enduro last year it is going to be setup in the same fashion I believe. I was hoping to talk to Matt at Roselawn to get more information but I didn't see him. I do know that it is also paying District 17 Hare Scramble points. Not sure how that's going to work but the directors wanted to try it to see about future races that are setup this way.

If I hear of any better details I'll make to post them.

astoria enduro/hare scrambles

I was hoping that dual race thing was a typo,hopefully I'm wrong but seems like a recipe for a fiasco.Paid 5 bucks to ride there one day last august,what a great place for a race!Lots of elevation changes,a creek ran along one side of the property and they had a fair amount of ground.Locals told us of better hills and trails,BUT it wasnt on the clubs land.Was hoping the enduro would include some of that,most of the trails we rode were of the 2track/freeway/quad variety.My friend and i both agreed if a "virgin" course was laid out-It would be awesome!I recall alot of clay although some of the good climbs we found were good ole ill. black dirt.Did I mention hills?Heres to hoping they pull it off!!Pretty cool to have all these enduro's on schedule this season,try to ride em' all, and maybe the trend will continue!

I was just wonderin how this race is goin to go..what is the start time ?? are we just to run run like 3 20 mile loops or something like that..and have gas at the start.?? Anybody have directions to the place ?? How the trails..from what i hear it sounds like quad stuff..? hope that isnt true. :ugg: .thanz for any info.

I talked to Matt Adams this morning and he said he has a 10.7 mile loop laid out that we will run 4 times. Matt said that each loop will be a certain MPH avg. If you beat the avg then you will get a zero, if you don't you lose points. Each loop will be a higher speed average. I assume one loop will be a high average so that no one can zero it and then be an emergency check at the end for tie breakers. Inbetween loops will be a reset so there will be a break. Kind of like 4 special tests, a combo of ISDE format and AMA format. You will start on mintues like normal.

He did say if the weather turns bad this week he will have to change the course and it may be shorter. Sounds like it will be a mix of single track and quad trail with a MX track and a couple creek crossings thrown in.

Keytime is 10:00. You can camp at the start also. Forgot to ask how much entry fee is and what time sign up starts.

As for directions he said to get on Hwy 24 between Rushville and Astoria and before you get to Astoria there will be arrows to follow.

Should be fun, hopefully the weather holds out, as from motorheads post it sounds like it could have some killer hills in the course. The creek crossing was a concern of Matt's also (weather wise), he doesn't want to have it get to deep with alot of rain.

So for sure it is a closed course? No need for lights? I take it that if it is also a HS then it has to be.

Sounds like no need for time keeping either.

I like the whole loop rest loop rest thing, gives us out of shape factory workers a chance to keep from passing out of exhaustion. :yeehaw:

No lights. I think the only timekeeping you'll need is a watch to know what time to start each loop. The rest between loops maybe short or long, I'm not sure how much time you'll have so don't come kill me if there is only a couple minutes between loops:)

I'm sure after 40 miles of all out race most everyone will be tired.

Hey ryan i dont even think you will need time keepin equipment..I am thinkin that they will have a restart otherwise you will just have guys goin in really early and takin a slow trail ride to the check at the end..

Your right, I think they are doing restarts. I'll wear a watch just so I know how much time I have left.

Hopefully the rain passes over otherwise I think it will be interesting.

Good job to anyone who helped with the race. I had a good time, even though I pushed and pulled my bike more this one race than all the races I ever did put together. It started pooring rain on my last lap, hail marble size, it got so slick some of the smallest hills became almost impossible. It was bad but nothing you can do about mother nature. Even if it hadnt started raining that had to be some of the slickest snot I ever saw. I wonder how many C riders will come back there?
Again great job to the guys running it, and the format worked out pretty good.

You had hail, too?

We had some pea-sized hail at Round #3 of the Missouri hare scrambles series yesterday near Polo, in northwest Missouri. Flying through open pastures in 5th gear, hail hurts!

I thought the club did a great job for their 1st race!If they got a little less rain prior the first lap wouldnt have been so gnarley(for me)told you they had some hills down there!the 2nd &3rd lap were awesome ,they did a great job rerouting and the ob checks were placed right after tricky spots where I saw alot of course-cutting goin on.After the first lap it was like i had whole course to myself.It would be hard to design a course to please both AA-A riders and slower B-c riders,this course definitley catered to the AA side.I'm amazed those guys rode/completed 4 laps,I bailed after starting 4th lap on second downhill/creek/uphill after m-x track(right after rain/hail)as i'm loading bike rivers of water are rushing down final hill just before the checkout,and those guys were still ridin down it!AWESOME RIDING GUYS!My odo has 34.5 and tonight at work I could have sworn it read 94.5 (my hair even hurts)I'm glad I went and I had fun(on 2nd-3rd lap)and I didnt get hurt.PERFECT DAY RIDIN!hope you run another dist. event

I thought it was a great race!!!! I had a blast and loved the hill climbs!! The club did do a good job on OB placement and on course reroutes. I helped the club score at the end and they caught a lot of people that cut. The course had to be very challenging for the C riders IMO, especially when it started to rain. If the rain hadn't shown up it would have been a blast on the last lap. I liked the format and it seemed to work out for everyone. I know the club members were asking what the riders thought of it and were looking for everyones opinion so they could improve the race for next year.

The fourth lap was a challenge. I was heading to the single track hills (by the railroad tracks) when it started hailing and pouring rain. There were people on the hills everywhere and people going backwards trying to get back. It took 3 trys for me and three other AA / A riders to get up one of the hills, yes there was a river running down the hill. It was fun though, nothing you can do about mother nature.

Hopefully they'll have another one next year and mother nature will shine on them.

I enjoyed it as well. The first lap (and hill) were kind of like WTF??? But as you guys said, 2 and 3 were nice. Didn't make my last lap but that was more because it was my first ride since October and I was dead tired.

As a 40 yr old B rider (have overalled before), I found it challenging but WAAAAAY fun. Growing up in New England, I'm pretty used to hills and mud. Great ride, I'll be back next year
