Double Up On Crush Gasket?

The end of my exhaust pipe is worn so that it is flat on only about 60% of the circle.The rest is worn about 1/16 so that it doesn't even crush 40% of the crush gasket.Would a second crush gasket help to contour to the uneven section,or would this cause a greater sealing problem?I will be using ultra copper Permatex around the rubber o rings as well to help stop the exhaust leak.Any advice?

why not just square up the end of you exhuast? or use a drift punch to "set" the pipe and crush gasket

I had my exhuast off yesterday to clean and did not have a crush gasket, I saw 2 o-rings. I had to work at wiggling it back in as it was a snug fit. My exhuast does not leak

I would not use two crush gaskets. I'm wondering if even one is necessary. I'll check tomorrow at the shop.

Is the header section on your pipe beat up at all? I have read plenty of times where the pipe gets bent a bit, and no longer sits flat. In that case, you can figure out which side does not seal and bend the pipe in the opposite direction. That could help...

Is the header section on your pipe beat up at all? I have read plenty of times where the pipe gets bent a bit, and no longer sits flat. In that case, you can figure out which side does not seal and bend the pipe in the opposite direction. That could help...

Hi Julien,The pipe is not bent but the end of it is worn so that it is not flat all the way around and does not sit flush up against the cylinder.Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks sr5,I"m going to try a little ultra copper silicone between the crush gasket and the worn area.It's setting up right now and I'll try it out tomorrow.If that doesn't work,I have a friend who is pretty savvy with a grinder and he will square it up for me.Thanks again.

What is a "drift punch" and how does it "set" the pipe and crush gasket?

A long narrow punch that you can use with a hammer on the backside of the flange to kinda knock it into the crush gasket to well.... crush it...as I don't believe the spring pressure will do a thing to it.
Sounds to me like the cylinder exhuast outlet may be wallored out from someone losing one of the springs and not replacing it right away.
