Dual Sport Tire Recommendations

My Dad is due for a new set of tires on his DR350. He lives in Michigan and his riding style is
shifting from single track type riding to more two track, gravel/sand roads, and an occational
black top road. Over the years I've kept sand or intermiediate tires on his bike, but one 10 to
20 mile trip down the black top is pretty rough on those tires. I've been looking at what Dunlop
and Bridgestone have to offer and I'm leaning towards the Dunlop D903 series. Does anybody
have experience with these tires or a recommendation?

I've been using Pirelli MT-21's for years now.
They hook up decent in the dirt, and do better that you might think on pavement.
Bike is '82 Honda XL500R.
