I was checking out E-line's lighting coil set up for my '02 YZ250 and had a few questions...I've never set up something like this before, so bear with me...

Does this just bolt right on? Judging from the pictures, that's how it looks?

How much weight does it add to the flywheel?

Is it worth the $500 for the lighting kit?

My bike had an e-line on it when I bought it, so I can't' answer the questions about installation. It does look pretty easy, I assume you have to remove the stock flywheel. You would also have to wire the lights up - not sure how much of the wiring is included and how much is custom. Much of the wiring and light mounts on my bike appear custom. Easy stuff, but takes some time to plan and do.

Also not sure about added weight - but e-line should be able to tell you that.

I can say it is a really cool mod that works great! Mine is wired with an 80 watt headlamp, tail light & brake light that come on when the light is switched to high beam, and the other 100 watt lead goes to a set of grip heaters.

The e-line is reported to smooth out low end power. Again, never rode my bike stock, but it has extremely linear power down low.

I installed one some time ago on my 98 CR250. It really is a bolt on thing. Pretty easy. Take the old FW off and bolt on the lighting coil. It works basically like a flywheel, I don't remember the weight.
Back then I thought it was worth the money, now I wouldn't spend the money anymore. A regular FW will do just fine for me.
It did look trick:)

How hard is it to pull the flywheel? If it wasn't for the stupid light rule in enduros, I would be after just a flywheel weight also. Thanks again!

questions on lighting coil

I was wondering if the lighting kit has additional fly wheel weight when attached to the flywheel or is it require a new fly wheel. I am considering making a CR into woods bike kinda. thanks!

Lights

fmf125, Im assuming that you ride ECEA enduros, since you are from Delaware. There are only 2 enduros that require the lights to work. The Speedsville enduro and the Barbed Wire. They were pretty lenient at the Barbed Wire. In the 18 years that I have been riding ECEA enduros, they were the only two that required lights. I also have an 02 YZ 250 and I am going to install only a weight. I cant justify spending 5 to 600 bucks for two enduros. :eek: My brother has a 2000 CR 250 with a E-Line lighting coil. He found the coil in another forums classified section for $150 and that came with the headlight and taillight. The previous years YZ (99-01) flywheel is different from the 02 and cannot be used unless a 99-01 flywheel is installed. That is if you can locate a used one.

I have just installed kit on my 00 YZ 250. Its a very simple bolt on and doesnt require pulling the flywheel. It bolts on top of your existing flywheel just like a steahly flywheelweight and the wiring kit plugs rigt up, its a very slick set up. I rode my bike this past weekend in the Sumter Enduro and the bike worked great!

If you call E-Line, you can speak to Kevin Hines directly. He can answer any questions that you may have.

They say the magnetic field in the lighting coil actually dampens the engine pulses. Kinda like a flywheel.:think

The E-Line kit adds about ten oz. Your existing flywheel is used. The coils are contained in the magneto cover that is part of the kit and not mounted to the stator plate like other coils that are out there. My brothers CR is very smooth and tractable with the E-Line kit installed.

I know what you mean. I never had any problems at any of the enduros. But I just had an incident at RORR last year that I wasn't real happy about. I just want it done right this time so there is no questions asked. Looking at the pictures it did look like it was just a bolt on, but I wasn't too sure. The motor on this YZ is awesome, I am excited to see what the 10 oz. will do to the motor. It's already really smooth, I guess there is only one way to find out!

I have a '02 yz250 and I'm the first e-line customer for that bike -- I had to wait almost two months for the kit. Just like the previous posts say, you don't pull your flywheel. A 10oz magnet bolts onto the existing flywheel just like a steahly weight would. It really did smooth out the power on top of an engine that is already excellent. The e-line kit made it easier to lug the engine and it felt like it had even more low end since it slowed the rev's down. I'm happy with it.

GWO,

That's exactly what I was hoping it was gonna do. The motor is incredible already as is. Did you get the lighting kit or the enduro kit? I am contemplating the enduro kit becuase of the tank. I ran my 98 KX125 with the stock tank and didn't have any problems with running out of gas, but the 250 seems like it is going through gas like it's nothing....

fmf, I wanted the enduro kit but had to get just the lighting kit. The enduro kit includes either an IMS or Clarke tank and neither of those are available.

BTW, that lighting coil really lights up those dual halogen headlights! Also, the e-line guys said you can get replacement bulbs at a home lighting store.
