i ride some trails but here in the dessert that usually means sand and dunes. would love to hook up on some rides and try some technical stuff in new mexico- just don't really think i have the right bike for it (cr 250)...

Don't knock the CR for technical trails. All you really have to do is get the jetting and gear right and you are good to go. tx246 and I have been to Moab twice and he rides a CR where goats fear to tread.

Watch the Mile High chapter. There are a great bunch of guys there that ride all over the state. JMD with the NTSP has organized a ride in SE New Mexico the last couple of years over spring break. I have heard it is a good ride.

I just got back from a 785 mile DS ride from Ozona to Van Horn and am in the process of exploring more roads and trails to ride in the Van Horn area.

hey dont knock your cr. it can make a great desert bike but you need to do a few things first. first, get an oversized gas tank. the stock one will really limit you. you also need to find the thickest tire tubes you can find and then add slime to prevent flats. i have also leaned my jetting a bit too. i also have a cheap enduro computer to keep track of how many miles i have left on a tank. nothing sucks more than running out of gas. my 3.0gal tank is good for 60+miles. i rode with some fellow drn folks last spring in an area a couple of hours north of elpaso. oro grande. lots of blm that runs along the missile range. we had a good time. cloudcroft isnt too far from there either and that gets into some nice single track up the mountain.
