Dirtin- I sent you a PM. The moose computer you speek of is now called a pacemaker. They can be found at www.aloop.com

Great computers that will do everything but start the bike for you.;)

The bad thing is production has been suspended, Aloop is in the process of selling the Pacemaker3 production to another company.:think

Thanks guys for all the info, very helpful. Do you know if you can change the speeds to 30mph, for lets say, a timed run run. Can you mount the unit on a streetbike?

Cheaper Options

I am wondering about cheaper computer options...I don't race Enduro, I just want speed, time and distance functionality. Has anyone ever tried a cycling computer...something like a "cateye enduro"??? do they work, I know they are cheap but if they do the job that would probably meet my needs for the time being.

Try a Trail Tech Panoram - costs around $80. New version allows for increment and decrement of mileage so it works a bit better in case you do an enduro. It shows trip mileage, total mileage, speed, average speed and an indicator if you are currently above or below your current average. Very easy to mount with mounting kits for most all bikes.

Great company to deal with as well. i think web site is trailtech.com or trailtech.net - not exactly sure though. Do a search here on DRN - you will find tons of posts on it.

The pacemaker has EVERYTHING. More options than you can pick. A big plus for it is that you can set the screen up with what ever you want it to show. 2 screens, 3 items per screen, 6 different choices per item. You can do the math. You can pick any speed average you like. You can pick distance to location, time behind, Odometer, speed average, speed odometer, 2 minute average, plus or minus time, lots of other stuff. It has an audible alarm. You can set it to go off at several different times. Early, possibles. It's a great computer, not the cheapest, just the best IMO.:)

I have often wondered what was involved in programing a unit like the ICO. How long does it take to load the information for a run with say 6 sections? I do know that you beam the info from one to another, but just don't know how to get the first set in.

I agree that the Pacemaker was probably the best computer, all things considered (features, options, price, etc). I was hoping to buy one as I am just getting to be able to benefit from a computer -- ran the watch and route sheet set-up last year (worked good while I learned the "game"). Now I am very concerned about Pacemaker being sold, who's the new mfgr, etc.... I'm thinking the Watchdog is now the way to go; it's $200 less than the ICO (which is a good unit as well), and geared more for enduro use than the Panoram. Each has it's own "system" that you need to learn, and I think they all accomplish the same things in the end. JMO.

I sure understand that. I'm a big Pacemaker advocate but I can't recommend them now until, and if, they for sure get someone to pick up manufacturing and distribution of the product. What a bummer.

I have used the Pacemaker 3 and also the Ico pro comp. Then I really wanted a Checkmate but didn't want to pay full price so I actually found one used at a good price. Now after using the Checkmate for a year, if I ever needed a new one I would not hesitate one second on paying full price for it. It's one hell of a unit.

The only thing that is better on the P3 is that it gives you the clock. I like to see my keytime clock and all i get is seconds on the Checkmate. Thats the only thing I would change.

info on watchdog

If anyone out there has any info on the watchdog I would like to here it. I already checked out their website. It sounds like a good computer but I just haven't heard of any feedback on them. Me and several of my friends have the pacemaker and we all have had problems with them shutting down while racing. A friend of mine uses the checkmate and loves it. I just thought that maybe I would try the watchdog being that it is quite a bit cheaper. Any input would be appreciated. Rosco.

I've had my Watchdog for a few years now. I leave it on the bike at all times, even when I've raced moto or GP's. No problems yet - I haven't even changed the battery.

As far as features are concerned, I haven't owned any other brand, so I really can't do a comparison.

more computer info

Holeshot, Thanks for the response. I was curious if you use it for enduro raceing and what class you race in. Do you know anybody else that uses the watchdog for enduro racing and what kind of luck they have had with it. I just can't seem to find much feedback on this computer. Thanks! Rosco

p.s. I am also looking for other chat rooms that are offroad related where I might get some more info.

Several people from the SoCal Wrecking crew use them for enduros. They range in skill from expert to novice (I usually ride novice).
