1bgdawg I forgot to tell you about that chain it has to be little/lot loose on the KTMs. I use this method after using the recommended one for reference. Use the Blue handle pliers at the top of the chain guide see attached drawing. I put the pliers so that the joint in the pliers sits between the chain and the guard and adjust for just enough slack under the swingarm. I have never had the sprocket bolts give me any trouble. By the way big Kelley rode that bike in the 24 hour race with no trouble, so it shouldn't matter about your size.

OK the KTM recommended procedure when I bought my 02 was to remove the rear shock and bring the swingarm up and inline with the pivot point and c/l of countershaft sprocket in order to adjust for a little play. This takes about an hour so after doing it once I then went back and figured out my above technique. The reason I use the KTM blue handle pliers was because that is what I carry in the fanny pack. This gives you an easy trail side adjustment tool.

KTM realized that the procedure in the service manual in 01 was wrong when Grant Langston lost the national motocross title due to a DNF like the one you had Sunday.

By the way that little Reed fellow wanted that sprocket more than I did. I think he wants to have it mounted. He wouldn't have been happier with a new bike.

I've been running nylock nuts with blue loctite for a year with zero loosening. But I'm like DLafluer, I run my chain loose.

But I've had MANY riding buddies on KTMs loose their sprocket bolts.

OK ! just changed out hub and respoked it ,! Finding other riders with same problem so you better keep a close check on the bolts if your really hammering on it , or change ever 500 miles or so! I found the problem before race but didn't think to change all of them holes were actually wollering out from twist befor the bolts actually sheered off! Problem sproket bolts not hard enought going to a harder bolt even talon maybe! any way thanks !

Chain too tight........

All of us AA and A riders here in Flagstaff have been on KTM's for quite a while- zero sprocket failures. None of the US riders at the ISDE had sprocket bolt problems, and we (well, maybe not me) absolutely hammered the poor KTM rental bikes for the week, about 1000 miles....

Your chain is too tight.

Broken spokes, now that I would agree with KTM has a problem....
