Anybody else here an expert at falling? I practice often and am getting pretty good. The only probablem is I have to find harder and harder hills to fall on.:confused:

Actually I'm an expert. Problem is, I don't try. Learning to fall is part of riding but the trick is not to do it.:D

Do not let Falling Star kid you. She is getting pretty good at hill climbs( the kind found on trail riding). Especially when you consider that she is riding a 21 year old Honda 185S! And she is definatly not afraid to fall.:cool:

You are right Bswift, and I will definitely try my best not to fall, but it's good to know that no matter how many times I've rolled down a hill(unattached to my bike that is)I've always found the strenght and courage to go back and try again.
Thank you Rogue, as my riding teacher and trail leader, I couldn't have done it without you, I owe all my bruises to you.:scream:

how do you control a fall? this doesn't make sense to me. when i fall, its becuase i am having an incident where i have lost control of the bike. if i have screwed up badly enough to be off my bike, why should i be able to fall with "technique"? when i'm spit off the bike, things are happening WAY too fast to do anything but pray that i don't hit trees or rocks. is luck a technique?

I'm proud to report I DIDN'T fall yesterday! Yup for the first time I was out on my Montesa practicing a bit and play riding with my son and I managed to stay off the ground. Maybe I wasn't trying hard enough? I'll see if I can't do better one evening this week.:confused:

After traveling to DW with Bswift I think I learned how.:p
I actually have trouble with the front end going where I put it in a corner.

My falling technique is getting pretty good. And I know when to hang on to or let the bike go, for the most part anyway. Still got to work on my cactus landings tho. Wait a sec, WHAT AM I SAYING! Spent a half hour trailside last weekend with my pants down picking that stuff out of my arse and hands.

I had a neat fall a few days ago! On a steep and loose downhill it became clear(too late) that I was picking up speed and could not slow down. Ahead was a soft looking bush. I increased the brake just before it and made sure I fell into the bush. IT WAS SOFT! :cool:

Gee, guys, I feel so much better knowing that I'm not the only one that eats dirt now and then. I plan to go riding the next 2 days a lot, I will report on my progress when I return.(in one piece I pray):)

Does tipping over count? I don't mind tipping over, it's the helmet first into the dirt that really irritates me.

Rogue, bushes and some really brushy smaller trees can be lifesavers.

Last season, Karl talked me into tackling a trail that ran alongside a deep creekbed. The previous outing we had discovered the trail but the rest of the riding group muttered something about you had to be stupid to try it so, here we were, back to try it. :think

The creek was not deep but the gulley it ran through was about 7' deep and rocky. The trail narrowed down in the deepest rockiest spot to about 8" wide with a big rock on one side and the creek on the other side. I guess I slowed down too much as I crossed the section because I tipped over. I remember thinking "This is really gonna hurt!" when I felt myself tip over. Fortunately, we (bike and I) tipped over onto a small tree that bent over and held us aloft above the rocks. Laying there floating was very relaxing.

Karl had to stand in the creek and push the bike up enough so I could roll on my back and get my feet under the bike to push it off of me. Once it was up and over, laying on it's side against the rock, I had to do a backwards roll down into the creek to get off the tree.

It was pretty funny. We've been back along that trail several times now and I haven't had any more trouble but I still appreciate that little tree.:cool:

I've been crashing more and more lately, don't know why. I couple of weeks ago I had a really bad fall. Front wheel slipped, over the bars, elbow and knee hit first, then my head. Rolled for a good ten feet. Road rash sucks. I crashed on Saturday, too, front wheel slid out on a muddy, fifth gear pinned corner. Head first into the ground, a bit of whiplash, scratched helmet and muddy clothes but otherwise I was fine. Crashing sucks, but sometimes they can be kind of fun. I had one a couple of weeks ago (same day as road rash crash) where I slipped on a wet log and did a 180 spin and just landed on my butt beside my bike on some grass.
