Favorite trails poll

Just wondering which trail everyone rates as their favorite. Hopefully I can get "upnorth" more this summer to sample some fine riding. The group I ride with seems to like the Bull Gap area, but all the quad traffic seems to break the rythymn of a good ride. So what's the best trail for us dirtbikers? Having a motel or campground to ride out of is a bonus for us downstaters.

My vote for now: Crapo Creek by Lewiston.

The Tomahawk Loop in Wolverine. Huge hills, tight trails, great trail.

#1 Mio Loop

#2 Frederick Loop

#3 The rest of the Kalkaska area trails

My favorites are ALWAYS single (no quads) stuff! They are:
1: The MCCCT going North out of Wolverine (Camp ground on Weber Lake is about 1 mile from the trailhead - follow the MCCCT from this trailhead to Indian River). Just went thru it again and it is FANTASTIC! Recommened optional equipment for bike = BARK BUSTERS!
2: The MCCCT from Lincoln Hills to Boon. Good camping at Carrieville (few miles from the MCCCT section I am talking of but VERY easy access - follow the map!
3: The South Half of the Big "O": Starting at the trailhead just North of Baldwin (I think it is on 32nd street west of M-37). A little whopped out iin spots but not as bad as the North side.
4: Horseshoe Lake
5: My own little play ground with hills galore - I spend LOTS of lunch breaks in this area! Camp in my own back yard - I usually dont have to though cause my wife isnt ALWAYS mad at me!
REALLY fun spots that are more open:
1: MCCCT leaving White Cloud (M20) going North to Nichols Lake. GREAT bermed corners! High speed chase but you REALLY have to watch the oncoming traffic!! Best if you have some AAA enduro rider to lead - man those guys are fast!
2. Galdwin - but if your gonna go there you will want to hook up with some of those great easterners!!
3. MCCCT south of Wolverine - REALLY cool, open, HUGE downhills that roll on forever!!

look for a gold truck with a kdx and kx100 on it.

As for my fav trails i have to say of what i've ridden (luther, missauke, tin cup, half of little "O", and long lake)

1)Missauke Jct.
2) tin cup
3)Long Lake
4)Luther
5)little O (prolbably would be better if i could make the whole thing)

And hopefully Evart is up there!

Woodsy, I see Horseshoe Lake make your top list. I haven't been there in awhile since they closed it. What's the status? Are the loops that much different? I plan on hitting it Saturday afternoon if I get time. I finished the re-plumbing job on my hunny-du list for Saturday tonight, so I think I deserve some fun time! :yeehaw:

The last time I was on the "Shoe" the only part they had closed was what we call the kids trail (opposite side of the road from the parking lot). I am not sure now. Funny, that is the tightest section too and is the area that I spoke of in my "favorites" list.

We've decided to ride Tin Cup tomorrow due to time constraints and the fact that my ankle is a little "iffy". Four of us (Loctite, MWeissen, Myself, and another friend) are meeting at 1:00 if you're interested. :thumb:

Racer#213, I've never ridden Missauke or Long Lake, but I do like Tin Cup. How do these loops comapre with the Tin Cup? Tighter, more open, more whoops, less whoops?

Missauke Jct. is like tin cup. but there are more spots for you to open up. Also there are some more hills. we didn't do all of them, bc when we went there was still snow and ice on all the hills, but they are pretty difficult. i'd astucally say that the hills areharder at missauke.

Long Lake, i rode a while ago, and don't have a very clear memorie of it (i've crashed a few time since) but i think that the trail is a little wider, kinda like the trails in luther. there were some hills that were really hard. But this was when i was on my xr100 so that could be why they were so hard. I liked long lake htough. we plan to hit that trail again and i'll give ya a better report on what it's like. What's really nice, is that Missauke is like 3 miles from Long Lake. So you can go ride Long Lake, then load up go to Missauke And ride Missauke.

That was my favorite too.  I'm sure some of the places that we rode that were good in the late '80s aren't as good now.

Timr, I grew up in Midland, and rode the first-ever CCC trails just north of Sanford. Those were fantastic trails! All nice single track, very few whoops. In the spring there were huge flooded sections with 4-12 inches of water for a long ways. It really tested your ability to waterproof your points!

Tin Cup was a great ride today, thanks to Badgerman for setting it up.
Y'all better watch out, Loctite really scoots on his new ride!

We used to hit Midland at the beginning of each season because we were jonesing to ride, and it was the closest good place to Bloomfield Hills.  I know and remember the water.  One year, we got stuck on that logging road, in our Van!  towing our trailer.  It took all day, and the help of some other riders with a 4x4 to get out.  We didn't get to ride at all that day, but it's great story.

I just planned a riding trip to Atlanta due to my friends saying that this is a good place to ride, I want to go to wolverine or harrison, can anyone help me decide with this. I rode Atlanta once, it was ok, but need some input...thanks.
Next weekend I am going somewhere...anyone else interested? Input is very much appreciated...

Tim, I forgot about the road going in! Yeah, that was as adventurous as the trails at times! The whoops were definately bigger on the road.

The last time I rode there was with my brother and another friend. My friend and I were really booking it at the beginning, and realized we left my brother way back there. We waited a long time for him to catch up, then finally turned around to get him. We found he had hit a culvert, and left a perfect formation of the culvert in the front wheel. This formed only after the forks had bent enough for the wheel to hit the frame and engine and stop. I got to ride that bike out only after we pulled on the front and rear wheels in oppposite directions to get the forks so the wheel would turn. I think that was the last time my brother rode a dirt bike too!

Well, I have only gone on 2 full trail rides, one at Leota and the other at Gladwin. I liked both of them...but I'm not sure what to compare them to. I just got back from riding a LITTLE bit at Whiskey Creek in Baldwin this weekend, but due to difficulties wasn't able to ride my planned 24 miles on Saturday, and was too tired by Sunday to make the 58 (?) miles. I tried. What I did ride of it on Friday (I got lost and ended up riding to US-10 and back, probably 25 miles, non stop :eek:) was REALLY great. I'd love to finish a full ride there someday.
