cut your bars down, barkbusters are a must, sleep, good breakfast, camelback, looking further ahead than you tend to want to will help stay planted in the rut, use the rut to your advantage..............LOTS OF LUCK

Bark busters are handy, but not absolutely necessary (I didn't have them in my first race). Get a camelback or some other drink system. This is a must. I suggest riding conservatively until you find your groove. The race is long so pace yourself. You can't win a 2 hour race in the first half hour, but you sure can lose one. Most importantly, HAVE FUN! That's why we do this in the first place.

Like the other guys have mentioned, get a camelback or some kind of hydration system, I don't now how we survived without them back in the old days :whoa: .

Get there early to get as many practice loops as you can, try to memorize the course and look for trouble spots.

Keep a finger on your clutch in the tight stuff, the last thing you want to do is stall it in some nasty section with ten other guys piled up behind you.

The ruts can be your friend or your enemy, just depends on the situation. Don't be too proud to 'paddle' your way up some rutted out uphill, beats falling down :) .

Budget your energy. Settle into a comfortable pace and stick with it.

If you will need to gas up during the race, look around to see where every one else is putting their gas jugs next to the course and put yours there, going into the pits to gas up will cost too much time.

Race with the guys in your class, not the AA Pro who's trying to pass you.

Blast off a half dozen practice starts including the first couple of turns if possible, this does wonders for pre-race jitters.

Be careful, Hare Scrambles can very addictive! :)

Have fun!

Ride your own race and don't try to win your first one. Just ride to finish. You'll be more successful if you pace yourself.

Let's see.... hitting trees, lots of them, getting run over, Yup, that's a hare scramble!
Sounds like my first couple of H/S's. Stay with it.
Now give up the details. What class? What part of the world was this event?

You hit trees? Thats it , I'm turning you in to the Sierra Club :) .

C'mon, lets get a real race report!

And when are people gonna learn that even a soft compound tire will not hook up on a downed rider :whoa: . (I've had a few "Dunlop racing stripes" in my time)

well, i'm really into MX, but i did the harescrambler for fun. I enjoyed it but i'm still focused on racing mx. I will deffingately race another one, just to have fun. i was goin in the first turn at about 5th posistion, then i hit the motocross part and got up to second,(99.9% of the track was trails, which isnt good for me :() then the trails came and one of the riders sent me into a tree. then 3 others ran me over. then i battled with the tightest trails i had ever seen, and hit aleast ten trees. wheew, it was a little hard racing my 125, my bikes set up to where you have to be pinned or you aint goin no where, not to mention those AA guys brething down your neck. :)

yeah, it was a good time, but then i mad the mistake of going to a MX track and thinking,"i did a harscrambler, a track will be no sweat" BIG MISTAKE, i went there and bike were blazing by me, i could not believe how fast they were going and hitting pretty good size jumps.
