Flash Manners

The track that I ride only has practice from 5 to 9 and by the time I can get out there to practice taking pics it is gettting too dark/dusk. Is it ok to use a flash or is that considered rude? Can I take pics at dusk without a flash or is it useless?

On that note I have a digital rebel and what flash do you guys recommend?

Tough call? If you aren't shooting them in the face, I doubt many would even notice it. Worst case? Someone may ask you to stop. Depending on the lighting/shadows I use a flash for fill during the day and have yet to hear a complaint. Night may be different?

As far as external flash goes, there are many. Canon of course makes the 580 EX which is a great flash, but fairly large dollars. I decided on the Sigma 500 EF-500 DG Super, which is equivalent and a lot less $$. It's been great.

Okie, I use the same flash on my 20D plus I use a Stofen Omni-Bounce (http://www.stofen.com/) . Both have worked great for me.

The Omni Bounce is pretty good stuff ... mine has yellowed though :( .

Thanks for the replies, I have heard several good things about the sigma just have to talk the accountant (wife) into it. I guess that I can just take the pics with the flash and if they dont like it then they can come tell me.
