Well, it finally happened--looped her out on the hill next to my house. I guess it's getting good power. ;) Snapped the rear fender off at the bolts and crushed the silencer like a soda can. The silencer was repaired by beating a steel pipe through it with penetrating oil. The rivets ripped right out of the metal on the PC silencer---ground them out, jammed it back in and reriveted and sealed w/gray epoxy---looks pretty good. Now the question> About 3" rear of the air box the frame was bent about 4" up and to the right(the part where the silencer, seat bolts and fender bolts go in. I heated it up with a propane torch and beat the heck out of it with a hammer---bent it almost all the was back---need a little more before remounting the parts. Is this the best way to do it or does someone have a better idea. MY butt hurts!!! DOH!

If you have access ot a oxy acet torch that would be better. it would be able to heat the metal till red and bend it more easily. You wont have to beat the heck out of it. double check that area of the frame for cracks after beating it like that.

Hey John, Bought this bike from Gatorkdx about three months ago. It's a 1990 kdx 200. The top end had been done just prior to purchase. It has stock 13/47 gearing and Michelin s12's fr and rr. The power---it's all in the jetting. It has a pc pipe and silencer, Boyesen reeds, no airbox lid and intake completely sealed w/blue rtv and a good clean air filter. When I first started working on this thing it had a stock needle valve, 150 main and 45 pilot---ran for $hit. WOT was all it would do and spooging like a Texas oil well. Had pilots on hand 35,38,40,42 and needles(Sudco) bel, bem, cel, cek and 148, 152 mains. Took about two weekends to get it right(a couple hours per). The carb is stock and spotless. Current jetting is 38 pilot, cel top clip and 152 main. From idle to WOT this thing pulls like a mofo. Have to be careful on hard ground--like yesterday on the grass--'cause there's no wheel spin. The bike will stand straight up in the first four gears using throttle alone, even with my fat 190 pounds sitting as far forward as the seat allows. What are you running and how is it set up! When you get the jetting dialed in it's a whole new bike. Kinda like listening to a clock radio and then sitting in the sweet spot with a nice stereo system----NO comparison!!! PM me if you want to talk off the board at [email protected]. Thanks for the response.

I'm running a '03 220 with no air box lid and Powercore II silencer, and stock jetting. The PCII helped it wind a little tighter, but it still needs more juice. I'm going to spring for a Gnarly Desert when I can, and then jet. That should give me the oomph I'm missing (came off a ATK 260). Don't get me wrong, the 220 pulls like a 4 stroke down low but I need a little more on top. I'm having to relearn how to ride - the KDX is totally different than the ATK. It's hard to get yourself to run in a gear higher than you think you should, but I'm actually faster that way. I've only got 50 miles on it, so I'm still learning...
The general consensus is that they come way rich from the factory, but I'm not going to jet until I get the pipe on. I may not have to adjust anything then, but I imagine it'll still be a little on the rich side as it blubbers quite a bit now.

Got 3 foot steel pipe and bent it back to aLMOST PERFECT WITH A PROPANE TORCH. Slapped a spare purple fender on it and--bam--looks like nothing happened. Whew! that was fun. Now back to your regularly scheduled broad programming! :o
