float adjustment

i have a 98 yz250-i believe the float might be off a tad bit-how do u measure and adjust the float???

On most carbs you have to remove the carb and the float bowl, hold the carb upside down and measure from the top of the float surface to the gasket flange on the carb.

For your particular model it would be best to purchase a service manual for the proper proceedure and measurement.

I learned this last year and have had no problems as of yet. It was from a mechanic with lots of years in racing as well as normal riding. Hold the carb upside down and when the float is adjusted properly there should be an everso slightly angle in the up direction of the float arm when it just contacts the valve needle. Bend the tang to achieve this

The float regulates the supply of fuel to the jets in the carb. Too high of a float level can cause a rich or flooding condition. Too low can cause a lean condition.

It is best not to guess at your float level. Check the manual for the proper height in mm's.
