do a search in this forum and you will find previous discussions on your question. you will find its a damned if you do and a damned if you dont propostion as far as where your foot is on the peg when something goes wrong. lots of broken ankles when you case or severely bottom your suspension. i got a destroyed achilles for landing hard with my toes(balls of my feet) on the pegs. my heel was lower than the frame rails when i landed. lost 4months of my usually active life.

For jumps, you're better to have your arches on the pegs. For trail riding/rocks/ruts it's better to be on the balls of your feet, otherwise you could catch a toe in a rut and end up wrecking your knees.
