I go to RT and MXT sites and they tell me I need .44kg or .45kg springs. But Fredettes springs are .37kg and .38kg! What the heck is the difference? I'm not getting it.......aren't the stockers supposed to be .36kg? Jeff says I need the .38(22lb) but if worried about them being to firm I could use the .37(21lb) I weigh 225 lb. .... And to use stock metal pre-load spacer and oil at 100mm. Wouldn't I eventually want to cut myself some "shorter" spacers out of PVC to give myself 10mm preload instaed of 20mm? Or wouldn't I want "longer" spacers to firm things up with more pre-load. Can anyone explain to me why the big difference in Jeff's springs compared to the others? I'm confused.

I am by no means anywhere CLOSE to an expert. But I would say you need the heavier springs. The preload and springs depend on your weight as much as your riding style. If you want super-plush riding for cruising around trails, the softer springs will give you that feel while still being able to handle your weight. The stiffer springs will handle your weight when racing in enduros or cross-country. Also would probably work fine for some MX riding!

I put something like .41kg springs in my bike as I weigh about 185 on the scales - so pushing 200 with gear ready to race. I race in enduros occasionally so I wanted to be a little on the stiff side for the setup.

I followed Race Techs recommendation and the similar advice from a local cross-country racer that does suspension work and have been happy with the setup.

I hope this helped some...

Good luck!

Well I called FRP today and Jeff says after all his testing that the 37 & 38's are just superior. Anything stiffer will just beat you to death in the trails. And I certainly ride trails 99% of the time. If anyone ought to know KDX's its Jeff don't ya think? Funny thing is I told him I liked it plush so he even recommened the 21 lb springs and not the 22's. You'd think I need at least .42's. We'll see for now.....I'll ride it in the next couple of weeks on some nasty stuff and a MX track and we'll see for sure if they are stiff enough for my 225 lbs.
