I can't get Rich to come out of his damn cave, so I'm coming in here to ask this one (it really only applies to 4T anyway). I'm sure you've been all over this subject, Rich--I just can't find anything, and wonder if anyone out there is gas porting pistons on these new thumpies? Or are there not the proper ring and land combinations to make it worth the effort (tight side tolerance, narrower/lighter ring, narrow ring land, extremely tight piston/cyl clearances, etc.). I can't recall how much, but I do remember that the gains on V8's were tremendous the last time I read anything about this.

I've suggested in the past that the single compresison ring engines should be running gas ports. The ring to land clearance on most available pistons is a bit too large for effective gas ports, but it is possible to get pistons custom made to a specific clearance that will make for a more effective gas port environment. Watch for something along these lines in the near future . ;)
