Hey all,
I have a gas tank with screwed up threads for the gas cap. Some "ding dong" crossthreaded one of those aftermarket metal gas caps and screwed up the threads, so now it leaks like heck.

Is there any way to save this tank?

I have no idea how you would save it. I got a gas tank off ebay for $100 for my yz426. It was a good deal knowing my only other choices was a $450 from my local shop or like $200 for an oversized that would kill me in the corners.

What kind of person would cross thread a gas cap? :coocoo: I wonder if there is a dye like one used to re thread a cross threaded bolt that would be that large?

That would be me. A metal cap cuts plastic threads quite nicely when you're in a hurry.
Anyway. I talked to IMS and Clarke, and they said I'm basically best of finding a new tank. The surface area on this tank is too small to cut in a new cap

I wonder if you could coat the tanks screw treads in JB weld, wait until its pretty hard, and use the metal cap to rethread the path through the JB Weld on the tank???....Just an idea...never tried it.
