Hi all

I am currently runing 14/47 and allways feels like the bike is is the wrong gear, it's a little difficult to explain - while riding tight trials I can't seem to settle in and ride smoothy. Granted it may just be me and my riding style, but I was hoping someone has a sugestion, even if it is'nt gearing.
89' 200 with no mods besides a front DOMA pipe.

Try like a 13/50. I have had 2 bikes (xr600 and kdx250) now that I regeared and the 49/50 tooth rear sprocket seems to be the ticket in the woods.

what does the 13/50 gearing do for you over a 13/48...more low end pull?

Brains,
I tried a 14t on front and its crappy in tight stuff. I have a old 13t if you want to try it, email me..
All the gear changes I have tried I like 14/48 best.
my bad, don't email me. South Africa? :|

I went to the 12t front gear for several months now, and I am going to switch back to the 13t. with 47 on the rear. I like the low end power with the 12t, but the engine just does not carry long enough in any gear.
Brains - I would at leat drop the front gear back to the stock 13t. They are cheap $14 - $16 depending on brand. Your stock 108 link chain should still work too.

Brains,
The stock bike comes with 13/47. I rode with that for a while then I went to 13/50. The bike a lot better at the bottom getting out of tight curves and you don't really feel the loss at the top end (top speed) in my case cause I ride in tight woods so it was really a good change. Also easier to get the front wheel up!

91kdxrider -
the question here is once you get it up can you keep it up.. ;) Or do you run out of gear? Thats what happens with my 12/47, runs out of gear to quick.

When I first got this bike, in May of this year I had a really hard time to find a comfortable spot for the wheelies after a few hours of practice I can get it up from 1st onto 3rd with no problem, just seems to run out off power (torque) to keep it up after 3rd gear... :yeehaw: I usually prefer doing a wheelie from 2nd gear, saves a shift and the front end doesn't come up as quick as in 1st. But definetly runs outta gear fast... My riding partner as a XR650R :aj: :p :flame: wheelie machine... from 1st to 5th at about 90-95 mph but no good for the woods... Between 2 tight curves and a couple of trees the kdx much better :thumb:

I have a 2002 200 and I put a 12 on the front and liked it pretty good in the tight trails. However, when we went and did some open riding the other day, the gearing ran out too quick. It's not even worth switching all the time from 12 to 13. Bottom line, I'm putting my 13 back on for good. Maybe I'll eventually get a 48 or 49 rear and see what happens in the future.
