My 300 has 14/49 gearing- it;s too fast for the tight woods I find myself in- even the stock 14/52 I bet would be too high - I usually end up gearing my KTM'sdown.

I was rummaging around in my goodie box and found a brand new Moose 50T sprocket that will fit right on- I was thinking to go to a 13T countershaft which would result in a 13/50 which is a little lower than stock 14/52 and a lot lower than 14/49.

Any issues with a 13T on a 2001 300 MXC that anyone can recall ?

it will probably wear your chain sliders more quickly, but many people do it. they use a 13t on the 04's with no problems (except the gearing is too low for me, haha).

my 02 came with a 14-52 stock, and i went to a 53 when i replaced it. that works pretty well for me even in the tightest stuff, but i don't mind using the clutch a little, and i tend to shortshift and lug the engine a little anyway. i found that the combo of the 53t sprocket, and the scrunched chainguide (musta been damaged in shipping or something, haha) were rubbing against each other, so i took off the aluminum outer covering of the chainguide, and everything has been perfect since.

Stock 14/52 would be 3.714 ratio

I currently have 14/49 , which is 3.500 !

Your 14/53 is 3.785

My 13/50 would end up being 3.846

sounds like I would be in the ballpark, and can maybe get some use out of this sprocket I bought and never used.

I almost always put a 13 on my KTM's first thing and keep the stock rear. It gears it down quite a bit but I don't need near the top end that the bike has with the stock has. No issues with pre-mature chain wear

I was running 13 50 on my 99 300 MXC it was perfect if you ask my I never noticed any wear on the slider at , go for it, now the 04 300 is a different story it has different internal gearing and needs a 13,51 or 52 combo
