I'm currently running a 14/49 on my KX250, thats what it had on it when I bought it. 1st gear is way to high, just easing around the bike just jerks. I'm wanting a more forgiving 1st gear, not so high to alliminate stalling. Was thinking of going with a 13/47, what do you guys think???

Go to the 13/49 to begin with, cheap too. Going down one tooth in the front is approx. 3 bigger in the back. I ran a 14/51 on my KX and totally loved it.

I'm not completely sure how first gear can be too high, but I never even use first. But I threw this chart together to help in gear selections. Higher numeric numbers are lower gear ratios, and I think that is what you are looking for.

Why are you needing to ride this slow? Do you ride in the woods?
Most of my time is spent on a personal tight corse I made. My local mx track has not realy got any place you can come outa 3rd gear. Basicaly I'm geared to high and am wanting to lower it a bit, not to much though, I don't want that much of a change. The local track tech recomended that I stay with the 14 front and try a 47 rear. Thanks for the info and the helpful gearing chart.
