hi everyone, found this forum while searching for info on dirtbikes and such. I have never owned a dirtbike, i have ridden bikes a few times in the past, but only once that had manual shifting and i seemed to catch on fast and now after saving up im able to afford one. Before i go ahead and chose a bike ill need to look into them more before deciding on what i want.

so i look forward to getting my information from this forum :)

Welcome to the goldmine that is DRN! Have fun and don't forget about that search button. You might do some reading in the "What bike do I get?" forum. BTW, where you from?

Sacramento,ca i just changed that .. and by the way i was thinking of looking into a suzuki, kawasaki or yamaha 250s from 98-2002 or so because thats something i can probably afford but yet not get something to old with problems. Im looking to spend between $1500-$2000

little about myself huh, well i always wanted a dirtbike, but having a bicycle is the biggest thing i have owned because being younger and having a protective mom = no motorized anything on 2 wheels haha... well now im 24 and i work for UPS as a driver so i make somewhat good amount of money. Meanwhile my first priority is to pay off most of my bills and depts, but also im now starting to look for a bike.

I joined this site like a few days ago, and knew nothing about bikes really, i mean im a mechanic as a hobby and love working on cars when time allows, but its a different story when it comes to bikes because its slightly different. I think the most work i did on something motorized on 2 wheels is when i rebuilt a tiny little moped engine the size of a 60cc wich i believe was a 4 stroke engine.

I didnt know how to tell if a bike is a 2 or 4 stroke, nor did i know the difference between the two, but after spending some time on this site and reading up i see that all 2 stroke bikes have the fatty pipe and the 4 stroke bikes have a normal sized pipe, im not sure how else to tell the 2 diferent stroke bikes apart yet. Also i now know that 2 and 4 stroke bikes are 2 different worlds as well, the 125 2 stroke compares to a 250 4 stroke engine, and the 2 sound different as well. I like the sound of a 4 stroke, but its heavier than a 2 stroke bike so thats why i want a 2 stroke 250.

I ill be reading up and learning more about dirtbikes here on this site for the next 3-4 weeks or so, then when i feel comfortable and understand the basics and how to take care of the bikes and where to get the parts etc, then ill already have enough money saved up to buy a used one, like i said prob for $2k at most 98-2001 or so and buy a rebuilt kit for the top end for about $150.

i cant wait to :ride: :)
