I guess I'm just too old. The fact that you're going 4t to 2t just seems out of order to those of us that grew up with 2t's.
Anywho... It's all about throttle and clutch control. The 250 2t will feel (and be) way faster. The rear end will feel busier, the usable power range is narrower, and the "hit" when the power comes on is way harder. But... they're easier to change-up your lines on, they lay into turns easier, they feel lighter, they're less maintainence intensive, AND they're FASTER........ guess which I prefer? ;)

4 stroke to 2 stroke is the natural order. That IS how it started. Ha, just noticed. When you hold the shift on typing the 4 it goes $, go figure.

For me, the difficulties going back to a 2 stroke are:

  • Merely letting off the throttle in the air does not bring the front end down. I have to re-learn the pull-the-clutch-and-tap-the-rear-brake-in-the-air thing.
  • You can't be as lazy about clutch use and gear selection. You will need to use the clutch more to keep the bike "on the pipe" (in the RPM range where the most power is).
  • Figuring out what to do with all the energy you'll save now that the bike restarts easily after a crash.
