I have a 98 kdx 220 I need to get license plates to race enduros LEGAlLY. However there is one big PROBLEM on the title it says NOT ELGIABLE FOR REGISTRATION . Is there any way around this? Can I register in another state. What is the answer here? How can I screw the system at there own game? Your help is greatly valued.

You ask a toughy here!

would be a bit easier if you told us where you live ? or want to race?

You can always go the Vermont tag route. Since your bike is under 300cc, you won't even need a title (tell them you don't have one). Then, get a signed receipt from whoever sold it to you. Call the VT motor vehicle division and tell them what you want to do. They will send an application that you should fill out PERFECTLY and do exactly what they say, and nothing more. The plate will arrive in the mail in about 3 weeks.

thorman75 - That was the '00 Little Muddy Enduro in Morrison, IL. The state police set up a roadblock. I had an expired plate from another bike on my KDX. Somehow I bluffed my way through but lost 30 minutes in the process. :ugg:

oohh I remember that well! But it happened more than once that year!

Earlier that spring the CIDRA enduro was stopped by the state police.

Glad I got a legal bike :)

At Morrison, for those of us "lucky" enough to reach the roadblock early (I was in the second or third row stopped) were asked to provide license, registration and proof of insurance. The seven officers were soon overwhelmed. Several riders rode right through the roadblock (I believe Joey Ambrosini was chased by the state police), others turned and rode the opposite way and many hid in the woods. By the time Offroadr arrived all you had to do was show them a legal plate. Luckily, the nice female officer that I showed my paperwork too couldn't tell the difference between a Honda XRL and a Kawasaki KDX. The guy running a Harley tag wasn't as lucky. :(

Off - I thought the CIDRA mess happened in '99. :think

I carry a photocopy of my drivers license, registration and proof of insurance. Best thing to do is stick it in a ziplock bag that's duct taped to the backside of the headlight.

dunno, I didn't stick around. The lady cop asked if I have been checked. I said 'YUP' and blew through in 15 seconds. That saved my high point 'B' finish :)

It was serious. They were checking VINS and all! Some tickets were in the $100s I heard one guy got $250. The boys with the MX bikes with battery headlights and fake plates got hammered.

well when you live half way between the ghettos of chicago, and gary indiana, you come to the conclusion that our police could be doing something else besides pulling over a bunch of enduro riders on a sunday race.its not like they were riding down the tristate.after fredette told me what that alderman had to say(paving roads like we dont pay enough taxes as it is) that pulled my chain.we had a squad come out to our local sandpit one afternoon,by the time myself and another service honda racer got thru jumping his ass,he just left.i was on my 500,a couple 250's and 125's and a few kids on 60's and 80's.we made him fell so bad he just left.

I used to carry my paperwork in my fanny pack until I found three fanny packs on the trails at Roselawn. I'd rather lose my K-mart tools than take a trip to the pokey. ;)

I think it's all a bunch of BS too. Hill & Gully works with the Sherriff's dept. over in Roselawn (and gives the a substantial contribution for their assistance). Although they do expect that the bikes "look" street-legal, the deputies know the guy with the Mag-Lite duct taped to his fender isn't legal.

Down in Texas, TRH works with local law enforcement at their enduro so that non-street legal bikes can use public roads during the enduro. They also do not have a lights requirements either.
