I just purchased one of these. I did some research and everyone seems to like them.

Where is the best place to mount it on my helmet. Visor, Side, top ??

I guess I can just experiment, but I figure someone in here has already figured this out by trial and error..

i dont have the go pro but i mount my lipstick style cam on the side of my helmet, the weight on the visor caused more flex in the visor or something and made video jumpy and low branches ripped it off when it was on the top or visor.

We've only used ours once on a MX track and once on a Go Kart track, mounted just behind the visor so it doesn't move with the visor.

Got my GoPro HD yesterday. Under the visor is where I'm going to primarily keep it.

On the face mask is interesting as well. Don't like that as well, though, because my face guard seems to hit the bar pad sometimes.

I don't like the idea of having it on top or on the side sticking out. Would rather have it inside my body form.

I have the non HD version of the Go Pro - just love it, though battery life sucks. I have a mount on my visor, as well as one on my chest protector. As I ride woods, I am way more comfortable with the chest protector mount. That location works fantastic actually - I used some foam to sort of shim the mount a bit to get a better angle. I have it set such when I am standing you can see the bars in the very bottom edge of the frame (which i prefer - gives a better sense of what all is going on when you can see the bars being hammered around on a nasty woods trail.

I use rechargeable energizers and get pretty good life out of a set. Don't recall but pretty sure we did close to an hour on the one set the other day without issue.

I use the Energizer Lithium and get a couple hours out of em. But I'm seriously thinking rechargeable lithiums would be better.

Got the HD naked (after 8% bing cash back) for $218 shipped. Only had one mount, but that's pretty reasonable for HD.

Still haven't got it mounted on the helmet, but I took a vid outside on the office balcony yesterday. Talk about some nice, clear, colorful video. Wow.

Edited: Oh I see now, I was too quick to jump when I saw the horrible 4 strokes in the early video post. Go the KDX220! Go Road Dawg!

Thanks Joburble,

I know it's not real impressive, but it is aKDX220 that I'm riding and I just wanted to try the camera out. In that video right before I put my thumb up there was a Black Bear on the trail. I tried to catch up to him and was looking off to the right to try and get him on camera better. The bear was just a blur. I've watched the video numerous times and I can just make out the bear, barely..

yeah I know that sucks when you see something and the video does'nt I was at brushy and seen something deer/ or mt. lion and though I could tell better when reviewing the video but did not pick it up..

Mount my HD here..

So far it works great. Keeps it safe and out of the limbs, plus it makes a rock steady video.

What's goofy about it? I've tried the top of the helmet mount, worked terrible. Seen videos of the chest protector mount, not impressed. Best functional place to put it I've found so far. Had the cheap helmet that I'd replaced already (wouldn't put it there on an Arai or Airoh for sure), perfect for the job.
Actually I've seen several others mounted like that, what gave me the idea to whip up the set-up. Not an original idea at all. :laugh:

I don't know maybee just the way it looks... have you seen the pics of the gopro mounted up under the visor?..you can change the program to record rightside up when it is upside down

also wouldn't breathing cause it to fog in the winter or cooler weather?

None of my helmets has a flat place on the visor.
GoProHDs don't do the upside down thing yet, still waiting on the firm wear.
Nope, it doesn't fog up in cooler weather.
So far, of all the places and forums I've posted that picture, your the only one who's been concerned with how it "looks". To each his own I guess. I'm more interested in how it works, than how it looks.
You'd better get back to polishing your boots, and making sure all your gear is all properly color coordinated. :nener:

I made a metal bracket for mine. I used two bolts and wingnuts. When I wanna put it on, I just bolt it on. I would not do it to a $500.00 helmet, but my $100.00 helmet does not have an easy way to mount it. I tried it on top, on the side and it did not give me the view I wanted until I mounted it on the face of the helmet.

i have a red helmet white paints and no jersey just a t shirt and a green bike sorry to piss on your parade,,,
