My Daughter Michelle, Bryans Wife wrote this for a class it is great! I told here I was posting this.
When a young boy begins a hobby it typically starts as an activity that keeps his attention and is entertaining. Parents usually don’t think twice about him being engrossed by something like dirt biking. When that boy starts showing promise and a competitive eye, a different part of development begins.
A boy around the age of seven throws his fragile leg over the seat of a Honda XR80, pulls in the clutch and kick starts the motorized beast until it rumbles and vibrates. Goosebumps form all over his tiny body while his palms begin to sweat. Intrigue and anticipation take over his racing mind. His father is standing next to him with one hand on the rear fender giving friendly instructions to an adolescent while the words of encouragement fall right into place. “When you’re ready, nudge the shift lever into first gear.” “Give it just as much gas as you give out equally on the clutch.” There he sat nervous as the fear of embarrassment and reality of danger became present. Releasing pressure on his right hand and twisting the left he begins to move, at that moment he was hooked.
The passion is there now and it is time to make the commitment. As time went on he became an accomplished racer and his parents were able to use that to their advantage in their parenting tactics. Having a sponsor for his obsession was a big part of reality in the world of racing. Training and good grades were what his life revolved around and he loved every minute of it.
Years flew by and he grew into a man. He was a family orientated man who had been taught through a motorized mentor how to commit to, and treat something or somebody that he loved. If either of those qualities were missing in the marriage between him and the bike it could result in serious injury or loss of a race, and to him, both were equally traumatizing.
As he grew older women came and went, but the one true love was always there by his side. If a female was to promise him her hand for eternity she would have to remember that his throttle hand would always be reserved for his original confidant. That beautiful piece of metal would always be the centerpiece of their relationship.
If a bond was to begin in their relationship it would be up to her to look at the positive aspects of his racing: withstand any devastation in the relationship, show passion, and devote completely. The experience would give her the opportunity to be his number one fan and loving pit crew. When a couple is able to support and cheer for each other in a competition that they love, it forms a deeper and stronger connection. He would always be that child throwing his leg over the bike for the first time when it comes to his love of racing and it takes a strong woman to stand behind and hold on to that fender as the shot gun fires and he takes off. If a woman was to accept his love for another object and take them in with an open heart it could bring such a beautiful existence to light for them and their future together.
Knowing that you will be on the back of his bike for the rest of your life and that no matter what type of terrain gets put in your way he will always be there to keep you safe and dust you off with a reassuring touch. In the life of an “Enduro Wife” that is extra comforting. When the world throws a rock pile in the way he never fails to begin that elegant dance as he takes his family to the top, and stops to make sure that the loves of his life get to enjoy the beauty of the view. That rumbling companion can destroy a relationship, but only if the woman doesn’t understand the necessary connection that has to exist between the man and his dirt bike. Jealousy is a destructive emotion.
When you see your spouse jumping over logs, roosting threw rivers, or cruising on one tire through a corn field, your adrenaline will rush along with theirs. Pride overruns your body and the thought crosses your mind, “He chose to be with me?” This, while chills go down your spine knowing that your husband has all the qualities that are needed to give you and your child a fulfilling and active life, qualities that have developed from a simple dirt bike and childhood passion. Just having that certainty can be invigorating to a mother’s heart. The ability to appreciate and accept can open up doors and create adventures for a family along the side or their two wheeled tour guide. Passion and devotion can exist in multiple parts of a person’s life; it is what you learn from them, and how you apply them that can impact the later relationships of your life. To those women out there always remember: if something were to come between the man and his dirt bike there would be tears, and dirt bikes don’t cry.
