Hello

New person here. I tend to take many pictures when I watch moto-x races. Here are a few from the Green Bay arenacross amateur day last Sunday.

Yes! I finally made enought posts to be able to post pictures on here:) Here come the rest!
I bought a new camera last month, this was the first time I ever used it at an indoor event, so I'm still learning all the bugs. The camera is a Nikon D80 w/ a 55-200mm VR zoom lens. This is all I have from the Arenacross, but I've got more moto pics from outdoor events that I took last season. I'll post those shortly.

Natalie did you use the flash or just adjust for lighting? I tried up at Minneapolis but didn't get the results I wanted. Soon Chili will post some of his from the floor there and shame us all

No external flash for me. I was frusterated too with how the pictures were turning out. I just started messing with the menu settings, iso, etc. & they started getting better.

I look forward to seeing Chili's pics. I like looking at good moto pics!

Welcome to DRN, always nice to have another member interested in this part of the board as well as moto.

As far as the shots I think you did well to get what you did with the lens you were using. Having a variable aperture lens like the 55-200 that ranges from f4-5.6 through the zoom range makes shooting an AX darn near impossible unless you get real creative and shoot low shutter speed pans etc. That is one of the reasons you see the pro's with the big money constant f2.8 lenses. That 55-200 will work much better for you in good light outdoors this summer.

One other thing I always try to keep in mind when shooting sports was something I read on a photography forum when a new shooter asked a well know pro some tips. The advice was "shoot tight and crop tighter". Obviously this doesn't apply in all cases depending on the effect you were looking for in a shot but it's something that would help the shots you've posted in this thread.

I look forward to seeing more of your work as the season gets rolling

Thanks for the tip about cropping! It is very much appreciated  I'm always looking for ideas on how to get better pics. I can definitly see in a few of these where some editing would be nice:)
