Hand engraving on bottom end cases of YZ250?

Hoping someone out there could help me out. I just purchased a 2005 YZ250 that, after I purchased it, I realized I was taken for a ride. The owner said it had 10 hours max on it, but after getting it home and really looking over it, it was apparent it had WAY more. Anyway I'm trying to figure out if it is someone's old race bike and if so, get as far away as possible. When looking over it, I found engraving on both sides of the bottom end cases. Each side had "11" engraved by hand (a poor job at that), and then below a triangle followed by "85". Any ideas? I got a good deal on the thing ($2500 in Cali. with steering damper and many extras), but I think I know why. :|

Thanks.

those engravings are identification numbers. I had a 2001 yz 250 that had the same slopppy numbers on them, I got a set of cases of ebay and had the numbers as well, but were different engravings
