I don't think this is arm pump. When I'm doing better than normal, for me, sometimes my right hand will get that tingling, loss of feeling thing going on. I try to do the things recommended here for arm pump, water, relax, exercises, etc. I'm pretty sure it's from hanging on too tight, 'cuz I'm scared. I was wondering if changing the grips might help - something tells me if they were fatter they would be better. Any thoughts?

I found out what causes that to happen to me...too much pressure on the palm of my hand. I really started to notice it when I ride my crotch rocket and I had to lean forward and hold myself up with my hands.

Try to hold on more with your legs, and relax your grip when you have a chance:cool:

My hands go numb on me after 15-20 min. I think it's vibration (97 CR250 w/ pro taper bars) :scream: I tried Pro-grip gel grips which didn't help much. Bought a CRF450 -problem solved:D no more numb hands. ( I also installed pro tapers on the 450. I filled them with silicone before putting them which should help dampen vibration.)

I thought it was from vibration too, but if I held myself up with my back instead of resting on the palms of my hands, the numbness would go away quickly.

You just answered your own question

You are probably correct in determining that when you sit up straighter the numbness goes away.. It is from leaning your weight on your hands. The exact same thing happens to me on my Mtn bike, because I rest my weight on my hands when riding.. The cure? On my bicycle I installed a riser type bar and a new stem, which residtributed my weight. end of problem.. You might try sitting closer to the bars or installing a bar with a higer rise bend, and repositioning your arms to the "attack position" . Also try and hold your grips more like a doorknob, and finally as stated above use your knees to hold on.. If you ride in a standing position whenm possible that also will help..

riding vs racing

I also have this problem but its only when I am racing desert races.
When I ride for fun I usually ride hard for 4-6 hours but my hands don't tingle at all. Its usually my right hand so it must be related to holding the throttle oppen without ever letting up. Recently I had it happen right after the start of the race (so I know its not vibration) and I lost a few positions because of it but I concentrated on relaxing and held on more with my legs and by mid race it was gone. So if I can figure out the mental thing at the start of the race I will be in good shape.

I'm with you there:scream: I have the same problem and forcing myself to relax when I don't have to hang on as tight (straights, in the air, etc) really helps. Holding on with your legs helps a lot too.
