I am 13 and I race a 2000 Kx80.After a lap or two of a motocross race my hands start to ache in the joints of my fingers.When they start to hurt I go slower and alot of people get by me!Is there any way to stop this?
Move you fingers while you are racing. Strech them out while on stright away, a couple finger at a time, move them back and forth. Also, start gripping the bike with you knees and this will allow your upper body to relax which will reduce arm pump and finger cramps. :D
On the starting line before your moto, stretch your fingers. A few stretches I use are to place your fingers, finger tip to finger tip and apply gentle pressure. This stretches your fingers, joints, and palms. You can also do the same thing by taking both hands and placing your finger tips on your grips and applying pressure down ward. Doing one finger at a time using this techniques seems to help also. Also, shake out your arms before a moto. This helps to get the blood flowing to the hands. As stated already, loosen the death grip with your hands and use your knees to grip and control the bike.
Let's see 13 years old, joints hurt. Could it be a growth spurt? I can remember, barely, my knees used to kill me when I was in high school. Looking back, I was in the middle of a growth spurt. Go ahead and stretch, flex, and excersise but you might start thinking about a 125!
motokx80. I am 15, and i used to have the exact same problem you had. Do your knuckles kind of freeze up when they ache? If so, it is because your bike is vibrating. (At least that is what my problem was) Fasst Co. makes handle bar inserts to dampen vibration. There are also a couple of other companies that make inserts, I just can't remember who. You can't run the Fasst Co. ones if you run Tag Metals X5 handle bars. (which, with my luck, I do) so another fix is to use a calk gun, with a tube or two of silicone, and fill up your bars with that. I did this, and although it seems a little rednecked, it works like a charm. My knuckles have never felt so good. About a year ago I was having similar problems with the middle joints on my fingers. Much of it was due to how I was holding on and body position on cerain tyoes of terrian. I am tall at 6'4" so I was riding more towards the rear of the bike and hanging on by using my fingers and not my hands.
What I did to correct this was, I moved my center foward on the bike [where it should be] while standiing. Make sure you are using an attack position , chin over the bar mounts, you will notice your hands are now more on the grips than your fingers. It is a bit weird to get used to since you are now over gripping on the grips. It will reduce stresses placed on your hands since your elbows are now acting like a piston by pumping up and down on the rough stuff.
Sit on you bike on a stand and squeeze your shoulder blades, you should feel your torso come forward, it will move you forward and over the bars. You will notice it changes where your hands are on the grips.
Practice while doing some starts, when you stand keep those shoulder blades back you will be in attack postion.
