In what should amount to be the biggest event of its kind to date in MX, fans attending Hangtown will be able to bid on ton of pro product following the race – with all proceeds going to assist in Fonseca’s recovery
PRAIRIE CITY, Calif., (May 15, 2006) – The Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club (DDNMC), producers and promoters of the 38th annual Honda Hangtown Classic, presented by Off-Road Outlets and Dan Gamel RV, announced today a planned auction to benefit injured rider Ernesto Fonseca following Sunday’s (May 21st) pro National.
The auction, which is being coordinated by DDNMC member David Harvey, will no doubt draw valuable and personally-autographed items from every racer on hand, including Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart.
“Since Honda is our new sponsor and this is the first chance for the Outdoor Nationals crowd to acknowledge Ernie’s injury and help assist with his recovery process, I thought it would be appropriate and timely to put together this auction,” said Harvey. “This will be a chance for the fans of motocross to buy some top riders’ autographed gear and help Ernie with his costly medical expenses. We also hope to have some of Ernie’s rubber wristbands for sale at Hangtown as well.”
Harvey himself knows first hand the importance of post-accident medical care as he’s recovering from a broken back suffered in February of 2006.
“As riders ourselves, every one of the DDNMC can sympathize with Ernie’s situation,” said Harvey. “And while our positive thoughts and prayers are with Ernie and his family every day, we are also in a position with our National to organize an event that can assist with what we hope will be a windfall of financial help through our auction. Ernie’s always been a crowd favorite at Hangtown and the DDNMC members not only see him as a great motorcycle racer, but a true friend of the club and we hope he makes a full recovery and can be with us next year at Hangtown.”
The 38th annual Honda Hangtown Classic, presented by Off-Road Outlets and Dan Gamel RV, kicks off with the Hangtown Amateur Days beginning Thursday, May 18th. The 38th annual Honda Hangtown Classic - Round One of the 2006 Toyota AMA Motocross Championship, is scheduled for Sunday, May 21st.
