is it jetted properly. Mine will start usually on first kick. If not, then the second or third for sure. try a new plug and make sure its gapped properly

My two cents...

Put it in 5th gear, rock it back and forth for about 30 seconds to charge the cylinder. Give it a skosh of throttle, followed by a healthy boot.
Worked for every CR I ever swung a leg across.

Good luck.

I always tip my 05 YZ 250 over (and my old 01 YZ 250) and let some gas spill from the drain tube. Fires first kick every time.

dont know why that works but it works for every bike i ever owned and my cousins drag banshee that used to have to tow behind the jeep to start

After kicking my 01 100 times or so a guy walked up to me and gave me the tip. I don't even try to start my 05 without doing it since it works like a charm. :)

i use the tip over method on my cr too.

that's only when it's cold. if your bike is hard to start warm, you have other problems to deal with.

This bike is shipped very rich on the low circuit from the factory, I would start by going one step leaner on the pilot jet, leaving the main stock with your location. Turn the air screw out about 3 turns.
1 kick the starter over slowly 3-4 times to charge the cylinder
2 kick the starter over slowly to get the piston up top
3 with about 1/16 - 1/8 throttle give a very hard kick
4 should start in 1-2 kicks

I would also try not using the choke with the richer jetting and AR location unless it is < 50 degrees

Geez maybe it's not that bad takes 3-4 kicks. I was used to my KDX which always started in 2 or less.

Tip method works for me every time, lean the bike over and hold it there for about 5 sec. When you pick the bike back up fuel should drain out of the over flow hoses. The slowly kick the bike over about 10 times to get it good and primed (or you can put it in gear and rock it back & forth). Now give it a good boot. Mine always lights up on the first kick.

I've messed with this bike probably 20 hours, but ridden it only about 4hrs. Jetting is about as good I can get it. I'm thinking of a JD kit or Keihin next. I seriously expect this thing to start within 2 kicks is that too much to ask? Hell I know guys with four strokes that start easier.....one of the reasons I bought a 2 stroke. Easier starting, cheap maintence etc.....Or let me put it this way I've had a KX and KDX in the past and they were both easy to start.

i've certainly never considered three to four kicks as being hard to start.

just get the keihin and be done with it.

the knock against four-strokes being hard to start is that they are often hard to start after a fall or stall, not when they are cold.

If I were taller I could kick it all day.......but when your tired and short. I don't want a Kouba link just yet. So I guess I'll try the Keihin mod next thanks.
