Got the Asterisk. They're kinda bulky but hey, I guess that's the trade-off for security.

FC yeah I agree they are bulky. I just got my Cells 3 days ago, still can't get them to fit. Those lace-up cuffs just don't fit right, its really hard to bend my leg. And the 2 clips by the hinge dig in. They're such nice braces though, really high quality, I'll get 'em to fit one way or another, even if it means losing a few pounds :p

Does yours fit ok? Do you get used to it during riding?

I like the way they fit much better than my EVS, which gave me huge blisters and pinch bruises from the straps. I like the lace up part and they seem to fit ok. My only complaint is the place on the inside of my knee where they touch the tank when I ride--they feel odd. It's hard to grip the tank. I couldn't tell you how my EVS were different but they didn't bother me that way. Overall, they are much much better than the other ones and I'm happy with them. Just have to get used to them, I guess.

So you guys have knee problems too? I don't know how mine really initiated but I twieked my left knee somehow and its been a pain for a year and a half. I have this knee brace, but it doesn't work very good, so I don't wear it anymore. I've been taking glucosamine for it, and it seems to be working pretty good. I also have to work my quad (as in muscle, not bike) to support my knee. Your injury's probly a little different, but what do you do to heal it?

I had ACL reconstructive surgery. You should see a doctor, and have an MRI--there could be something wrong that will get worse the longer it's not fixed.

[Re] to firecracker

I went to two different docs and they both basically said the same thing: to work the knee and take glucosamine. I asked for an MRI, but they didn't recommend it. I thought that was weird, but right now I'm tryin to get to the gym every other day. So did you hurt your knee riding? How long did it take to heal after surgery? I heard knee surgery is tedious where they could mess with your knee, and also expensive.

I crashed on it twice last summer, and ended up tearing the ACL, MCL and meniscus. I had surgery on Halloween and my doctor originally told me it would take 6 months before I could ride, but then at my last checkup it looked good enough that she said I could ride carefully at 3 months with braces. ACL surgery is very common and very basic--I doubt there are very many problems with it. They just take a tendon from somewhere else, drill a hole through the bones, and bolt the new tendon in where the ACL used to be. It hurts and all but there are far worse things to do to yourself.

Ouch! That doesn't sound very fun! I crashed twice last year, but I was lucky that it wasn't anything too bad. I hope that never happens to me, that would suck.

Give it a little time, you won't even know they are there. I don't miss the bruises I used to get on the inside of my knees. Yeah, I grip hard :)

I got bruises there too on the few occasions I rode w/o braces or pads, but I won't be doing that anymore. I just felt like I could grip the tank better with the other guards. Oh well.

Thor makes a neoprene sleeve which goes over the braces called a Kneesleeve. Its got these donut looking things on the sides which look like it may help gripping the tank. I haven't got it yet, I just saw it in the Parts Unlimited catalog. But for $15 or so its worth a try.
