Hi

I have a REAL annoying prob which is stopping me getting the bike on the rd. Its a 90 KDX200 E2

When I have my lights on front and rear they work fine. However, when i touch the brake light all the lights go VERY dim and the brake light only flickers.

If I leave the lights OFF the brake light works fine.

If I take the front bulb out, the rear light and Brake light work fine.

If I rev the bike with the lights on they do not get brighter \ dimmer as the revs go up \ down IS THIS NORMAL?

Do any of you guys run a battery on your bikes, does this cure this problem?



HELP PLEASE!!! I am desperate to ride my new bike :bang:

I'm not familiar with Euro versions of KDX but the US version stator is low out-put and will not support a brake light. Try using LED replacement bulbs because the use less power and last much longer.

Your bang on the mark DENNY!! Top prize for you!!

I have just spoken to an Ignition specialist and this is a NORMAL problem with the KDX. Because it didnt have a brake light as standard the ignition is only putting out 30w ish. the front light is 25W the rear 5W. when you wire in a brake light this pulls an extra 21W which kills the lights. He does the upgraded ignition for £60.

I am going to pick one up this afternoon so I will let you know how I get on!

I have just tried an LED tail uniot and this made NO differance same problem with the lights going DIM.

I have also re ran ALL the earth cables with no differance.

BUGGER!!!

I am hoping to pick up the ignition today

Motrax LED rear light. I can get eitheir the rear light OR the barake light to work not both and now the guy who was getting me the ignition will not answer his phone!!

WHATS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I am going toi try hooking up the bike to a 12v battery tonight if I dont get any joy :(

Hi Guys ..

ITS FIXED!!!

Just in case any one else has this problem in the future it is a know problem with the KDX as it was not fitted with a Brake light as standard and it causes to much of a drain on the system lighting the 2 filiments,

The fix is as follows:

You will need to buy a single filiment bulb holder from Kawasaki (P\N 23008-1404)

A special Kawasaki single filiment bulb (Can not find P\N at the moment)

and a Kawasaki resistor (dont know part number)

The resistor is soldered in line on the cable that comes from the generator (yellow cable) the OUT cable from the brake switch is joined to the cable with the resistor BUT AFTER the resistor.

The system works buy the rear bulb only receiving 6volts most of the time due to the resistor. When you hit the brake switch it causes a short circuit allowing 12volts through to the rear light making it glow brighter!

If you need a diagram of this please give me a shout on leeharding@totalise.co.uk. All the parts are available from Corby Kawasaki in the UK 01536 - 401010 and they know the mod.

I think it cost me £20 in total with a few spare bulbs

I hope this post saves others spending a WEEK stripping down the electrics!

correct me if im wrong guys but dont the LEDs not only last longer but draw far less current (less draw on the system) and create almost no heat? slightly pricey but mabey a quick fix and should allow more wattage to be used up front.

the theory is correct but its all about the path of least resistance, ie when you hit the brake switch all the power tries to dive down this wire as it comes straight from the generator to the brake light instead of having to go through all the wires that connect the lighting system. The LED WOULD work if it were a lack of power issue but its almost to much power thats causing the prob. When I wired in an LED bulb I STILL had the problem as electricty will always take the path of least resistance hence you have to put a resistor in.

If you would like to make all of the lights work much better buy a 75 watt lighting coil from moose ($80 U.S.). The head light will be twice as bright as before.

That is a good price but how long were your without you bike while you sent your stator to him and are you adding the shipping cost. I never lost a day. I called on Friday to order the part it arrived on the next Wednesday, I installed it on Thursday, rode on Friday. and the shipping was included.
