Hi -

Brian from KC here... I've been riding street bikes (and some road racing) for around 10 years now, but I've never ridden a dirt bike (except putting around on a friend's 100cc in a field). I've decided that street riding is just getting too dangerous, and that I'm going to give dirt riding a shot (still going to keep my R6 race bike for race track use)... So, I just sold my R1 street bike last week and bought a 99 yz250... I just took it home last night and have yet to ride it, but I am REALLY stoked.... It is definitely a whole new world for me, but I can't wait to get going...

Welcome - Brian! I hope you enjoy the switch to dirt!

There are a bunch of DRN members from the KC area - so I'm sure they can help with places to ride and maybe even a riding buddy!

Hey Brian, I'll be at Merwin tomorrow (Sunday, April 4th) hopefully by 11 AM. Look for a white Ford ext cab with DirtRider.Net window stickers, and YZ450F #441. Break-in run tomorrow, so I'll be going even slower than usual (if that's possible!).

If you need directions, check out www.rjmxracing.com

I was going to go to Merwin today but it was closed for a race. I ended up going to deep water. Didn't get much riding in though as my buddie's brand new bike crapped out on him after only 20 minutes. I definitely have a lot to learn as I busted my ass pretty good going over a jump. Approached it too fast (for me), and chopped the throttle at the last second causing a nose dive... Not sure what happened but I ate dirt pretty good (pretty bad road... errr... dirt rash down my arm)... I might try Merwin next saturday (if they are open)...

Yeah, I had a nice day of riding planned. Did my yardwork, loaded up and got there about 1230 only to find the scramble going on. They use every inch of riding area for scrambles there, too. So, long story short, I watched a couple laps and came home.

I do have this Friday off (Good Friday) and the forecast looks promising. So, I will be there, and maybe Saturday as well. Click my user name in this post, and shoot me an email and we can trade phone numbers if you want. Always good to have more riding buds. Also, what part of town are you in?

I know what you mean about street riding getting dangerous..I got hit by a car in September and just had surgery on my knee. No dirt riding for me for another 3.5 weeks! Welcome to DRN

I met Lou and Al yesterday... Really cool guys... Lou really hooked me up by lending me his extra helmet and goggles until mine come in... Huge thanks for that...

I definitely have alot to learn, but I think I did pretty well for my first true time out on the bike... I was VERY nervous at first, but as the day progressed my riding really improved and so did my level of fun... I had a wonderful time and am definitely getting addicted (can't wait til my next outing)... Probably the most fun you can have w/ your clothes on :)

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Al yet, but I can assure you thet Lou is one of the finest members of the site. He would give you the shirt off of his back if you asked.

Glad you had a good time.
