help me decide

3) what do you plan to ride- MX/SX tracks, woods, fields with friends or ?????mostly riding in the hills some trails some jumps
4) Do you have any riding experience? owned a bullet bike and I now have a quad
5) Do you think you will race ?NO
6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work? minor repairs and maintenance
7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)?No Preference
8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry?allbrands are close by me
9) How much ($) do you plan to spend on a bike?up to $3000.00

12) anything else that you think would help form an opinion I love my quad but I feel that I want something a little faster and a little more on the edge. any help would be appreciated.

why are people telling me this???

I am hell bent on getting a bike in the next month or so. and I am leaning towards a 250 and everyone is saying its too small of a bike. I am six foot and 200 lbs (I allready posted all my info in another thread) they say I will want a bigger bike. why are they saying this. I have a 250 quad right now and that thing has no problem moving me.

help a guy out here.

Hey man. Make sure you know what 250 people are talking about. A 250 4 stroke is equivalent to about a 125 2 stroke (probably a little small for you). A 250 2 stroke is equivalent to a 450 4 stroke. pay attention to the model of bike.

RM 250, CR 250, YZ 250, KX 250 those are 2 stroke 250's

RM-Z250, CRF 250, YZ 250F, KXF 250 those are the 4 stroke 250's

you could also go with a 450 if you want a 4 stroke

forgot to mention...250 two stroke would be plenty for you. 250 4 stroke might have a harder time with ya but would still be alright.

I race a YZ250F and I am 6' and around the 200lb mark.

I have not found me wanting more power. This is my 3rd 250f. I had a 2001, 2003 and now a 2005 YZ250f. In there I had a CRF450 and a YZ250WR as well. I personally love the YZ250F and how easy it is to ride hard.

My next bike might be a KTM450EXC but only b/c after this year I am going to do more trail riding and less racing and being able to tag the KTM is very enticing.

Unless you're looking for an under powered, heavy trail bike the CRF230 shouldn't be an option.

thank you I appreciate it. consider that one off the list. how about the other 2??

the trails that I ride with my quad a good trails, nothing too steep just some nice mountain trails with a nice little whoop every now and then.

I love my 2000 CR250. From what I have read you can't go wrong with either the 2k CR or YZ.

All things being equal I'd go with the CR b/c replacement parts are a bit cheaper... especially if you buy them from Service Honda.
