Ok, I know this topic has been done before, but I can't quite find the info I'm looking for. So here goes, again.
I'm going to buy a 97 or newer CR250. Got my eye on a babied, low hour 98. My question is whether any of the 97-99 models had any major chronic problems. Primarily, any frame woes to know about since it was the first couple years of aluminum frame production?
No really concerned so much with carb or suspension tweaks. Just those big design flaws that make you sorely regret not getting a newer model. :(
Of course, I am tempted to save my pennies for a 2001. Hear good things about them here.

Thanks,
Tony

Im thinking you should try a 99-i dont seem to remember the previous ones bieng as good-the 97 was renowned for its harsh frame.

I agree with marcusgunby. Honda is on their 3rd generation for the frame (new for '02) and each is better than the previous. I don't recall when they went to 2nd generation but at least go there.

I agree that you should at least go to the 2nd generation frame which is the 2000 model year. I had a '99 CR250 which I actually liked quite well. I'd stay away from the '97 & '98s...I've ridden a '98 and did not like it at all. The '99 was better in all aspects. I currently have an '01 CR250 which is even better than the '99. It handles better, better suspension and great motor. CR's are very reliable...I haven't had any problems with any of the CR's I have had...just do the occasional top end job and regular maintenance. A good buy is actually what you feel most comfortable on. I'd ride as many as you can first and then make your decision. If you're interested, my '01 is up for sale and I'd give you a good deal on it. I'm moving up to an '03.
