I had the clip on my needle at the top and it seemed to run good but if I really lugged the bike it would ping. I then moved it down to the third notch. It ran good on the road and the open trails with no pinging but it seemed to be a little down on power and lost some of the hit. I do lots of slow tight trails and in those conditions it would load up and also smoke a lot. So I moved the clip to the second position from the top. I can make it ping just slightly but I really have to lug it hard. Runs good but I think it still was best at the top position. Is it safe to lean it out more or does the pinging when lugging the bike mean it is dangerously lean? My needle is one number higher then stock. Does that mean it's a richer needle then stock or leaner?

For the pilot jet I seem to have the best throttle response with the air screw 2.5 turns out. Should I just drop one size?

Using pump premium and mobile mx2, 40:1. Bike is a 99 cr250.

Thanks for any help.
