Can anyone tell me were the fixed pointer is on a 1996 xr-100r
for lining up the piston on tdc. I could not find it after I took the left hand cover to line up t mark on rotor to the case. I did see one spot that was marked black on the case could this be the mark?
Or is there another way I can do it so I can adjust my valve clearances? Could I use my dial indicator and put something soft in the spark hole and rotate engine until my piston is at tdc and when there is play in both rocker arms will I be safe adjusting the clearnce this way if I cannot find the pointer?
Thanks for any info.

Jim, yes you can find top dead center through the plug hole but you want to be on the valve overlap rotation of the cycle . This is when boath cam lobes will be in the lowest position ( pointing down) of there rotation.
In outher words you want TDC, lobes facing Down. Make sure your motor is stone cold before you attempt the valve adjustment.
Hope this helps!
