how does KDX weight compare to 250 MX bikes?

I have a '90 KDX200 and am thinking about adding a 250 MX bike to the stable in the faint hopes that it will make me more comfortable jumping and be easier to ride on MX tracks.

What is the real world difference in weight between a modern 250 MXer and my old KDX? I'd go for a 125, but part of my interest in getting a 250 is to also have more bottom end punch and not have to keep the thing wicked up all the time or worry about coming into the powerband unexpectedly on jump faces.

besides the weight, it is the suspension which is going to make the greatest difference, if you are going to jump, ride MX, this is where you will feel it the most !

I vaguely recall my 91 weighing (kaw specs) around 234. If you are trying to jump more, than an mx bike will handle it much better, but will most likely have to be tuned down a little to work as well in the trees unless you are a very aggressive rider.

You could be right Lorin. I pulled my info on the '90 from the NADA book, this years. Gawd only knows how many people fiddled with numbers over the last 12 years. My numbers for the '03 modles is from the factory, I had the '03 brochoure(sp) sitting in front of me ;)

Thanks guys. The 234lbs value would seem to make sense. I wouldn't expect that after 13 years of development the bike would actually weigh more now than it did then (223 compared to 220).

This will be an additional bike, not a replacement. I'm sure I'll always prefer the KDX in the trails, I just want something that's a little better suited for MX duty.
