How to clean stock 220 silencer?

I want to ckeck and clean the stock silencer on my 2000 KDx 220. I don't see any way to pull it apart though, it seems to be completely welded up at the back. There is a bolt on the bottom 1/2 way down the silencer but i can't tell what it is for. Anyone have any ideas. I hope I am not overlooking anything obvious.

The only thing you can do is drain it. It doesn't come apart. Just warm up the bike then pull that bolt out, a bunch of spooge will come out so have an oil pan ready.

Do these silencers have a short life span as a result?

No, these have no fiberglass packing inside, just metal chambers to arrest sparks.
