I read an article in the Husqvarna Report (Vintage Husky club news letter) that discussed the Husky 430's of the early '80s. Implied they have reliability problems when run hard. Also said they was a "Yamaha Rod Washer" fix. So anyone know what a "Yamaha Rod Washer" fix is? Anyone know who can do this? Mine looks and runs fine but it will be run hard. How different are the internals of the air cooled 430's from the water cooled ones?

Well, my brother raced a 81 or 82 430XC in the desert for a few years and thats about the hardest you can race a machine. He loved it. Husky's ruled the desert back in the 70s and 80s because of their reliability.

I don't have much Husky experience as I was a KTM/Kawasaki racer during those early eighties. I remember having the impression they were reliable..as you were saying. Mine seems to be real quiet and smooth for a open bike of that era. Also seeing as its 18 years old, there must be some good qualities to their design. That article just put the question in my head...Thanks for the response.

Iwas a dealer for HUSKY back then and we had no problemswith the 430 wr or xc models at all.Once in a while they would eat clutch baskets if you really abused the clutch. The bottom end on the air cooled and water cooled are the same.**GAS/GAS
