I keep blowing bulbs in headlight...what gives?

My 97 ATK 260 Enduro keeps blowing the headlight out. The light kit is your standard acerbis 35W w/ a 10W "dome". I just replaced both bulbs, being careful to not touch either of them. As I was warming up the bike, I blipped the throttle and the 10W dome light went out, but the 35W continued to burn. Later on, as I was coming home from my folks' house, the 35W bulb went out as well. I was running the bike pretty hard, if that makes a difference. I'm not sure what's going on here. I do know that I don't want to be somewhere dark and have the bulbs go out if I run it hard! Over on the ATK site they mentioned that it could be the voltage regulator. Are these standard regulators like they have at Autozone, etc or is it a "special to dirt bikes" kind of deal?

If you have a voltmeter you can hook it up to the headlight wires and see if you are getting over 15 volts at full throttle. If so bulb life is shortened and a voltage regulator should be used.

I would recommend a bike oriented regulator.

I would bet that your voltage regulator is at fault.
You can pick up a new one from most MX parts catalogues for a decent price.
