I must be gettin' old

This Sunday was pretty nice around here. I should have gone riding, but since my partner's still down with the broke ribs (see "Scare Scramble" thread in ride reports), I decided to putter around the garage.

First off, puttering. Now that makes me feel old just using that term! :eek: I was cleaning some stuff up, starting a bunch of projects that I'll never finish, and generally just kickin' back with a can of beer.

Then it starts :debil:

The neighbor kid (who graduated high school last year) was home working on his rig. Now, generally this is a pretty peaceful neighborhood, but not this day. Out of his "kickin' stereo" (the only thing worth a dime in that car!) comes some gangsta rap. Now, I can put up with some of it for a little while, but not this stuff--"mutha-f*ah, n*ah, s*!" You name the expletive, it was in there for poetic license! With a 6-year and 3-year old, I didn't think they needed to be hearing it, and I don't think the little old ladies that live across the street wanted to hear it either.

Luckily, the kid maybe got an attack of conscience and turned the noise off. Lucky for him that is, since I was about to bust out the big speakers and crank up some Johnny Cash! :p

Anyhow, the more I thought about it, the older I felt! Cripes, I used to be the kid with the loud stereo! Now, almost 33, I prefer some quiet music (albeit something hard!) while I'm doing my puttering! :D

Now excuse me while I take my Geritol . . . :ugg:

What you were hearing is pure crap.

I can listen to just about anything and can usually appreciate the talent of just about any genre, rather I would actually want to listen to it or not. But hey, no-talent-MTV-video-driven crap is crap. :p . Sorry to all the "rap" or whatever it's called now fans, but, spouting rhymes to computer generated studio "instruments" is not talent. They are at best, poets, but not musical artists by any stretch of the imagination. Listening to that one recorded percussion track used in every "song" get's old fast.

You're not getting old. When we were kids, they didn't have to have different versions of "music" released with all the profane words bleeped out. I think even though he stopped, I'd go over and talk to him about blaring his objective noise around your town. If he doesn't comply, go to his parents. If they don'r get the picture then I'd call the police. Sooner or later he'll get the picture. Needless to say you don't want to start answering the "What did he say, Daddy" questions :mad:

It's not that your getting old it's the fact that you are responsible.. you have two small children and are concerned about what they hear.. or see for that matter. I myself have a 6 month old and get riled up about what people do around him that I never thought about before.. an example would be that I used to smoke.. in restaurants.. and I didn't even give a second thought to the people sitting next to me with their children.. UNTIL my son was born and people light up in his presence.. how could I have been so dumb.. (please don't answer that)

It may just be that he doesn't realize what he's doing... Hopefully you can reason with this kid but it's all in how you approach him - if you go over there with a big bad ass attitude he'll likely remove your mailbox from it's post and decorate your house with egg while you sleep, or worse.

Side note. In our search for a new house, I went into one home and could hear the neighbors similar noise eminating from his car in the master bedroom. I went outside and saw the neighbor polishing his caddy with his pants falling off so far you could see the bottom of his underwear, plus the guy had a massive weggie. :silly: (insert the disgusting smile here). Glad, :think , I saw that because we scratched that house off the list. Good luck selling that one.

XRP, at least your still puttering & not just on the front porch in the rocking chair of course even my sweetie has 10 years on you and he hasn't slowed down to a putter yet!

Hey, you wanna talk about getting old? Five years ago, I was touring the countryside playing in a heavy metal band. Now, i try to sneak a little time away from the wife and kid so I can play my acoustic guitar down in the basement. Not that I would trade this life for the old! There just comes that time in like when you have to back the volume know down a bit and kick back. That doesn't mean that I don't pound the 10 inchers every now and then with some Master of Puppets!

I catch myself doing this sort of thing alot during the winter. My fiance always says "you going out to the garage to do nothing again".

Your old when you consider anything -w- one rear shock a "new" bike.
Your old when you remember those really cool Harley motoxers -w- the rear FORKS.
Your old when you consider Aerosmith a newer rock group.
Your old when you remeber that cool old Elsinore you used to own. The one -w- the polished aluminum tank.
Your old when you look at a new bike and wonder how many recycled "clorox" bottles it took to make it. :D
Your old when someone mentions dirtbikes and names like Ossa, CZ, Maico, Elsinore, Bighorn, Motosport, etc pop into your head........still.

just seems like the other day when I had to go holler at the neighbor kids to hold it down!
Why they making a ruckus beating on hollow logs, talking away to the kids in the village down river. ;)

Trust me Pred',,,,,,,,,,it aint the putterin you need to worrry about---it's the mutterin while you putter. :eek:

I couldn't agree more Okie and bbbom. I hate living with neighbors so close you can hear them talk in the yard.

Predator, I'll be 30 on Saturday. I was at a Halloween Party a few weeks ago and just got totally annoyed by all the younger people acting rowdy and making noise. That's when it hit me. I must be getting old. I used to be the one getting crazy and acting like that at parties. Now I just wanted to find a quiet spot to sit and drink my beer in peace. Of course I'm not puttering yet either. :p
