I need the stock preload and compression settings for a 2000 Yz 125.

I normally start at 12 on compression and 12 on rebound and tune from there.Preload? on the shock? or forks?

Well seeing as those adjustments are for only for fine tuning i think i need my suspension done. I weigh 135 ready to ride. THe suspension is just way to stiff. Can i do it myself or should i have someone else do it.

First you need get the correct springs for your weight

goto www.mxtech.com and use the spring rate generator to find the correct ones. If you are a reasonable machanic you can change the springs yourself.

Those are the springs that the generator has for me to choose could someone please guide me in which ones to get. I am totally lost when it comes to these.

Your stock fork spring rate is.....4kg/mmkg/mm
Your stock shock spring rate is....4.6kg/mmkg/mm
Your recommended shock spring rate is....4.3kg/mm
Your recommended fork spring rate is....0.3837kg/mm





its basically saying you need to get a 4.3 spring for the shock and 0.38 springs for the forks-thats roughly two stages lighter front and rear

Well, thanks i found the springs I need. Does the stock service manual tell how to replace the springs? I dont have one yet but I am going to get one. Or is there an article that tells how to do this. The shock should be easy but tearing apart the forks will be different. Also since the rebound setting does not have the little tick marks, what is considered a click? 1/8th a turn 1/4th? Also will springs pretty much take care of it being so stiff? I'm not a hard core racer, I just tired of it beating the **** out of me. Thanks for all your help marcus.

A manual is essential if you want to start doing this type of work, the rebound should have the clicks like the compression-sounds like its time for a rebuild, also springs will help but at your weight you really need a revalve-its not going to be cheap to have the whole lot done im afraid.

Will the springs actually make a difference though? Enough of a difference that it wont beat me up? Before I spend the 180. I dont have the money for the revalving and stuff. maybe I should gain weight.

If i was you i would do this

buy the springs and fit them, use 2.5 weight oil in the forks set to the minimum level recommended in the manual, set the compression to full soft on front and rear and see how it rides, its easier to make it stiffer than to make it softer.This will cost the price of springs and one bottle of oil.Springs are the building blocks of suspension-you have to get them close for the suspension to perform.
