:yikes: does anyone know how to time a 1987 yz 250 without using a dial indicator . cant get the bike to start and when I took the cover off the stator was loose and turning
there should be timing marks on the stater and the case
how many are there?
line them up
and use lock tight and tighten the screws
if you can adjust the timing by the plate-oval holes it should still start no matter where it is
i ran my kx fully advanced and fully retarded and it started bolth ways
good luck
thanks for the help seems I have a weak spark ,checked all the connections ,cleaned ground and tested ohms in stator all seem ok but still have weak spark.cdi maybe?
:uh:
I have a 96 YZ 250 and am having a similar problem....won't start. There are no timing marks on the stator for the 96-98 models. At least that is what my Clymer manual says and I've not seen them either. I was just working on it today. There are marks for matching up the stator plate to the flywheel.
I also wonder if there is a way to determine TDC without a indicator? I also wonder how often CDI units go bad?????
Dave.
