Ok so I'm rebuilding an older bike and I was having ignition problems -- particularly I lost spark - had it and now i don't...spent some time and 6 beers last night tracing over the system - key, switch, etc....traced it back to the coil - under the flywheel - I had no readings coming out of the wires so I pulled the flywheel and found that the solder had come loose and the wire pulled itself out of the coil - my question is the wiring is old and I was considering running some fresh stuff - anybody know the gauge - anything special I should know? I'm sure I can check tonight when I get home but if I can find out now and pick it up on the way home from work, giddy up.

You might try looking closely at the insulation on the wires. Most wire manufacturers print the gauge and operating temperature on it.
