Im new and need some help!!

Hi guys im new to dirt bikes and was wondering your opinion on choosing a bike. Thanks in advance for the help.



1) your physical size (both height and weight are important)
6'0" 160lbs.

2) How physical / aggressive are you ?
on my quad very, on a bike not so much

3) what do you plan to ride- MX/SX tracks, woods, fields with friends or ?????

4) Do you have any riding experience?
about 10 mins. on a cr125 but i have rode quads for the last 18years. I curantly own a yfz450 quad.

5) Do you think you will race ?
Maby once i get comfotable on a bike.

6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work?
Yes i will do my own work

7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)?
I would prefer a 2 stroke but im not aginst a 4 stroke

8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry?
Yes they carry all major brands.

9) How much ($) do you plan to spend on a bike?
Around the $2500 range.

10) Do you live in California?
No, Arizona

11) Your age?

12) anything else that you think would help form an opinion
Not really just that i have no experiance with dirt bikes. The only time i rode one i went to turn and the bike fell over on my leg :| ...lol now i just want a change from rideing quads. Again thanks in advance for the help.

So you guys think a 125 is to small.

Ok thanks guys. so i decided to go with a yz250. I've serached around and found two that i really like and am going to look at them on tuesday of next week.:yeehaw:

One of them is a 2001 yz250 the guy said that it was his race bike and has a new top end 0 hours on it, boysen reeds, new chain and sprockets, but needs new tires. And he is asking $1900 for it.

The other is a 2003 yz250 all stock with about 30 hours on the motor and it was owned by a old man who just rode around his ranch. He is asking $1500.

I know its not alot of info about the bikes and i still need to ride them. But would you guys rathere buy one that is stock and a little newer or one that has been raced but has a new top end.

so after a week or two of searching, looking and test riding dikes. I found this one. Its an 03 yz250. i bought it with a bad top end for $700. So after a $400 top end rebuild And a set of new tires I love this bike it is super fast and flyes straight as an arrow. I recked it a few times already (thank god for saftey gear) But hey im still learning :). So anyways thanks you guys for the help.
