I'm new, wondering if I can tag along?

I used to go riding with a BF and his friends, now I'd like to keep doing it, but none of my other friends are into it. I'm in SoCal. Trying to find people I can tag along with, or point me to places where I can find people to tag along with. I learned recently, so I don't want to go out by myself.
About myself: I'm 24, I'm not too whiny for a girl, I can pick the bike up when it falls, and I rarely cry when I crash.. :) I

Keep checking for group rides. As it starts to cool down there will be more rides posted. Everyone around here is very cool and willing to help out new riders.

The only person that you don't want to ride with is Kiwi. He will mkae you cry. Hell, he makes me cry. :yikes:

Welcome to DRN!

Hi Randomfish!
I ride pretty much weekly and you are more than welcome to come along. What part of socal are you in? I'm in Temecula and ride several of the tracks in my area as well as the desert and in northern California. Do you prefer track or trail riding?

And watch out for the Eel, he likes to run you down off-camber trails that risk life, limb, and clutch plates. And you always risk having to ride 2 up if his 300 breaks down in the middle of nowhere

Thanks for all the replies, guys! I feel some hope :)

Petra: I've never actually been to a track, just out in the desert. Glamis, and the area by the air base off of 395. I'll try anything once though :) I have only been in California for a year, so I don't know a whole lot.

I'm in SoCal by Santa Ana, and John Wayne Airport.

CRF Tom: I will have to google/mapquest Ocotillo to get an idea, and will PM you.

Thank you so much for all the replies. Kiwi sounds mean - bikes on ankles? lol ouch.

CRF_Tom: It appears I am too new to be able to PM. I looked up Ocotillo, and it looks like just a couple hours away. What kind of riding is it? Who do you go with? Do you go for a day or stay there? Camping? Sorry if too many questions.
Thanks again for the invite ;)

just kidding on the kiwi thing, he is a great guy.

ocotillo is a great place for camping, wide open area with some cool terrain features with plenty to do, except is very hot during the summer months. Silverwood lake is close and offers some great trail riding hwy 15 and east on 138. as for summertime I have been enjoying the tracks except for that great trip up to K Meadows in July.

ona side note: Careful the crew doesnt make you wear the pink tutu

Ocotillo as bigschafft put it, is a great camping and riding place. My family and friends have been going out there for the last 6-8 years. There are alot of things to do. Lots of places to ride to also. We usually go as a large group, which are 2-3 day trips. Get there either on a Thurs night or Fri and leave Sunday early afternoon. We go on a long ride in the morning with the kids. Then after lunch the adults and big kids that want go ride head out for a faster ride. My 15 yr daughter has fell in love with our TTr-125. She has a quad, but just ends up riding the yammy more than her sofa.

The kind of riding you'll find out there is a mixture of sand, hard pack and hills. Remember that this is the desert. So the availablity of shade is few and far between. It's a must to have a camelback. Not only for water, but also for your munchies and other items you'll need. Zip ties, tools, money. I think you get the picture. There are a couple of store/restaurants we ride to, to grab a cold drink while out riding. Ocotillo is about an hour closer to you than Glamis. You mentioned something about you living in Santa ana. Where abouts? What's the closest freeway interchange to you? I hope this answered your questions. If you have anymore I will be glad to answer them. On a closing note. Kennedy meadows that everyone has mentioned. Is one of the most beautiful places to ride. I have been once and plan to get back there again. This time as a much better rider.

There's a pink tutu?! Outstanding! What else can one ask for..

CRF_Tom: That sounds really good; I do have a camelback and zip ties, although I wouldn't know what to do with the latter - zip tie stuff  I figure, if something breaks, I'd have to take the thing in.
I did get the bike lowered a little while ago, and it's much MUCH better for me now. Lowered my crash rate by a good 75% lol. I live by John Wayne Airport, so I am by 405, 55, 5, and..73.
I will look up Kennedy Meadows online, that also sounds nice, although if you need to be a 'good rider', may be too early for me.

It really depends on the group that goes. My son is 14 but there have been a few younger kids. On the older side I cant really say but its usually a pretty diverse group of people. faster...slower....older...younger...equal opportunity riding group
