Hello all,

I have had no luck finding anyone that would insure my dirtbike for theft and fire in NC. It seems that NC has some strange state laws dealing with insuring motorcycles. Progressive wont do it, but suggested that I look around as someone might write a recreational policy. I have searched high and low and cannot find anyone. Does anybody on this forum know of a company that will insure my dirtbikes for theft and fire in NC????

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance....

no, but i'll try and find out. i heard a guy at a shop in jacksonville telling a salesman that he had just found an insurer for theft/collision. I think it was nationwide? I'll contact the shop and see if the sales guy remembers.

Hi, I dont know about dirt bikes, but when my 4-wheeler got stolen, our insurance covered it. But thats because it was considered "farm use". If you ever use it for working around the house, it should get covered. But I dont see anyone useing a YZ250 for hawling horse feed back and forth to the barn. So I really dont know. BTW, I live in Benson/Dunn.

Atlantic beach. Do you want to get up with us? We ride every weekend. Also we're looking for more people to head to atlanta with us. If we can get a few more people we can get a group rate at the hotel.

yardpro,

Yeah, we are always looking for people to ride with and new places to ride. We are in Raleigh, NC... I wonder if there is anywhere between you and us?? We are thinking of going to Uwharrie state park this weekend.. good challenging trails. Pardon my ignorance, but what is in Atlanta?
Also, let me know if you know anyone that wants a 2000 yz250 in excellent condition... I bought my 426 too soon and now need to unload the 250 :).

thanks,

Dude, All you need to do is call Nationwide. I live in Charlotte (FINALLY) and I've got my bike insured for fire theft and vandalism for $56.00 per year with no deductable. You might have to have your car insured with them though...

atlanta supercross-
uwharrie is pretty cool. Brown mountian is much better, but much longer drive. We mostly ride tracks, but trails like uwharrie & brown mtn are vrey cool. There is kenly in goldsboro. Not a bad track. We're planning a trip to tnt ( check out thier website). If you're interested we drive through raleigh to get there. $? on the yz

It's not Progressive's fault. Its NC's rediculous insurance regulations. My understanding is they let the agents in the state regulate who does business there. Hence no discount companies allowed. Until enough people raise cain with the legislature you will continue to have high rates that are out of line with all the other states around. You have a beautiful state to ride in and we visit often but I don't want to live there.

Mike,

I called nationwide and they wouldnt do it either. The lady said that it had to be a vehicle that could be registered. I told her over and over again about your situation and she just plain refused.... thanks for the info though.

thanks,

I have my new dirt bikes insured with State Farm. Wasn't any problem at all. (I also have a house, cars, and other motorcycle policies with them too, if that matters.)

Here's an idea... Did you check with any motorcycle dealers?
If you finance a new dirtbike the banks want the bike insured.
Good luck. Here in Ohio insurance on dirtbikes is not a problem.
Search on the internet for a insurance group called NOHVIS.
They are out of Wisconsin and insure OHV Parks and perhaps they
can help you out or point you in the right direction.

Good Luck! Mark
